RECEPTIONIST - HOSPITAL COMMUNICATIONS Job at North Oaks Health System

Shift: Friday Evenings 3p-9p, Saturday 7a-3p and Sunday 7a-3p.

Summary:

Responsible for handling all hospital calls in a timely, efficient and courteous manner.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Sufficient previous experience in the area of customer relations in a hospital or similar setting

Responsibilities:

Screen calls and takes messages when appropriate.Maintain confidentiality regarding patients, physicians, employees and other hospital-related business acquired due to the nature of the job.Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, safety and infection control procedures, and quality assurance procedures.

Attend in-services and other required meetings.

Use the computer for inquiries regarding physician information and patient information.

Maintain the policies for nondisclosure of information regarding NPP patients. and Senior Care Patients.General cleaning duties of the work place, including daily disinfectant of all equipment.

Notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions including telephone, beeper system, paging system, alarm system and computer system.

Document errors and occurrences and route to the supervisor immediately.

Assist in training new personnel.

Document all long distance calls placed and received.Work other shifts when necessary.

Assist in the care of departmental equipment and supplies.Provide assistance guidance and directions to visitors, patients, employees, and physicians.

Ascertain the nature of their business, assist and direct to various locations in the hospital when appropriate.

Call for an escort when necessary.

Receive messages, flowers, and other items.

Verify that the patient has not been discharged and arrange for delivery of items to patient or appropriate personnel when necessary.

Address patient mail to their room or home address if they have been discharged.

Maintain accurate sign-in logs for registration purposes for all patients.

Provide wheelchair assistance for patients.Prepare religion census for Clergy and Eucharistic Minister programs.

Initiate all in-house beeping and overhead paging during information desk hours.

Work Signature Building information desk or Tower Lobby information desk when necessary.

Assist in checking and replacing broken phones on nursing units and patient’s room.Assist in ordering flowers or other items for employees and other VIPs for funerals

Arrange for the delivery of a NOHS gift for patients who have birthdays during their hospital stay.

Take messages from ICU patient’s family members and fax to ICU nurses for them to respond to.Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Follows North Oaks Health System’s compliance program and all federal and state regulatory guidelines.Demonstrate competency in age-specific criteria as applicable to job scope.
