POSITION SUMMARY:

EPIC Rehabilitation and Nursing at White Plains is a **BRAND NEW** Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation center located in the heart of White Plains. This SNF is part of our " Epic Healthcare Management" group of facilities. The Recreation Aide assists the Recreation Leader and Director of Recreation/Assistant Director of Recreation in preparing, conducting and organizing programs. In addition the Recreation Aide encourages each resident to attend and participate in activities in conjunction with resident care plan.
- The role of the Recreation Aide is to implement programs on the monthly Recreation Calendar, and work directly with the Residents, promoting participation in individual, group or independent recreation or leisure interests, improving the quality of life for all residents.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: During the course of your shift you may be required to perform some or all of the following:
- Under the direction of the Director of Recreation, assist in planning and conducting a variety of recreation programs designed to meet the needs, capabilities, and interests of the Residents.
- Keep ongoing and accurate progress notes and attendance records of all residents to and from activities.
- Work with the interdisciplinary team, attending various weekly Care Plan meetings.
- Help in transporting Residents to and from all recreation programs.
- Carry out regular one to one activities with the Residents and record these activities in the attendance book.
- Work to promote the recreation program through all available means of publicity, obtaining the cooperation of the staff members, the residents and volunteers in furthering this promotion.
- Assume responsibility for the physical set-up of the room when assigned to an activity. This includes arranging the room before the activity and straightening it up afterwards.
- Attend departmental staff meetings and in-service training sessions as required.
- Assist in the evaluation of programs assigned to him/her.
- Inform the Director of Recreation of supplies and equipment needed for assigned projects and programs.
- Acquire a working knowledge of all equipment and reports any needed repairs to the Director of Recreation.
- Work to assure a clean and safe environment for the activity program.
- Promote positive community relations through a helpful and professional attitude and exhibits and maintains an upbeat, positive demeanor and attitude.
- Assist in carrying out regular religious services and programs, as needed on facility newsletter, and as needed with record keeping.
- Assist as needed with correspondence.
- Maintain and display art work for decorations and internal publicity.
- Maintain plants and all horticulture items.
- Maintain storage areas neatly and in accordance with state regulations.
- Assist with special department projects, up to and including, but not limited to pet therapy, Facility residence/visiting pet duties (i.e., walking, feeding, cleaning, grooming, upkeep, etc.).
- Work with interdisciplinary staff on joint activity programs and therapeutic activities.
- Is directly responsible to the Director of Recreation and shall work as assigned including weekend days and evenings as needed.
- Ensure all HIPAA requirements are adhered to.
- Follow all facility policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Education:
- Some High School Required
Work Experience:
- Previous experience with geriatric patients is desirable.
Job Knowledge/Requirements:
- Some High School Required
- Must be able to weekends and holidays.
- Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and handicapped.
- Must utilize good judgment in emergency situations.
- Must possess a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm in order to create an atmosphere conducive to rehabilitation and growth.
- Must be able to communicate well verbally with residents, families and staff.
- Treat residents and fellow staff with respect, dignity, and compassion.
ADA Requirements:
Candidate will have the physical ability to perform job related duties, which may require lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, pulling and pushing up to 50lbs or more as needed.
