Position Summary

Assist in the administration and management of all operational and programming aspects of a comprehensive recreational sports program. Emphasis will be in coordinating the intramural and club sports programs and the Hogan Sports Center Summer Recreation Day Camp. Manage and oversee the operations, administration, and planning of all home intercollegiate athletic events. Will train and supervise work study students who will assist with the set-up, operation, and clean-up of home athletic events.

This position oversees the training and maintenance of all the colleges' scoreboards and sound system that are used for home intercollegiate athletic events. This is a 12 month position reporting to the Associate Director of Athletics/Director of Hogan Sports Center.

Responsibilities

Recreational Sports
  • Provide administrative support to club officers, coaches and advisors in order to maintain a strong club sports program.
  • Coordinate leadership training for club officers including budget preparation.
  • Schedule practices, games and officials for all competitive club sports.
  • Reserve facility space for games and practices and arrange rental agreements for off campus facilities.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for all competitive club sports.
  • Secure first aid or athletic training services for competitive clubs.
  • Purchase and maintain inventory records of all sports equipment, uniforms and supplies.
  • Arrange field preparation with facilities
  • Monitor compliance with all safety and health requirements ensuring a safe environment for all participants.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the intramural sports program including hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating student intramural sports officials.
  • Assess student recreation interests and implement new recreational sports opportunities.
  • Promote and market all recreational sports programs to the campus community.
  • Maintain the recreational sports web site as pertains to programming areas.
  • Assist in daily office administration.
  • Assist in the assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Assist in all programming aspects of the Hogan Sports Center Recreation Day Camp including hiring, training and supervising camp counselors, daily operation of the program, ensuring safety protocols, communicating with parents and coordinating fieldtrips.
Game Management
  • Coordinate the logistics for varsity home athletic events as assigned.
  • Participate in the development of policies and procedures related to the operation of athletic facilities and event management.
  • Arrange for set-ups for home contests including field preparation and the assignment and preparation of locker rooms for all teams.
  • Coordinate all game personnel, and serve as athletic department liaison with visiting teams and officials during all home games.
  • Maintain inventory of all athletic game management equipment (scoreboards, golf carts, flags etc.), including repair, replacement, and safety recommendations.
  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise work study students who will assist with the set-up, operation, and clean-up of all home athletic events.
  • Coordinate with the Athletics/Facilities/Campus Safety on specific tasks, such as major repairs, snow removal, parking, event security etc.
  • Fill-in and/or assist in any game management position when necessary.
  • Act as Tournament Director for home playoff events in the absence of Director of Athletics.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, Masters preferred in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Physical Education or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in the management of personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating intramural and club sports programs.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in programming youth activities, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Professional demeanor to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, parents, coaches, and children in conducting recreation programs.
  • Flexibility to conduct and oversee activities in late afternoon/evening hours.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
