JOB TITLE: Nurse Coordinator of Education and Infection Prevention & Control

REPORTS TO: Medical Director

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

The following statements reflect the general duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job and should not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements of this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs the functions of an educator, facilitator, change agent, leader and researcher in area of expertise.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of staff development, orientation, competency and continuing education programs
  • Supervises the maintenance of records and preparation of reports related to staff development programs
  • Assists in supervising the work of nurse instructors, classrooms and clinical instructions; teaches prescribed programs as needed
  • Plans, manages and evaluates the infection prevention and control program and practices at HHLI
  • Performs infection risk assessment and re-assessments; initiates prevention and control strategies to address specific issues or concerns related to infection prevention for health centers sites across HHLI
  • Develops infection control training programs including health care professional and patient safety
  • Monitors and reports health center site associated infections. Tracks outcomes measures and adherence to specific process measures (i.e. hand hygiene, sterilization of equipment)
  • Ensures that the practice adheres and maintains compliance with local, state and federal requirements/guidelines. Reports epidemiologically significant findings to appropriate agency and persons.
  • Performs regular audits and competency evaluations of health care professionals. Conducts evaluation/provides written report of the health center environment and staff compliance with infection control practices.
  • Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement Meetings and reporting program. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Provides oversight of the quality assurance, implementation, and training for all point of care equipment
  • Contributes to his/her own professional learning needs and growth
  • Facilitates and monitors the Flu program for the Health Centers
  • Perform related duties, as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

· Current License as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York.

· Between 3-5 years of relevant clinical nursing experience, including 2 years of demonstrated teaching, leadership and basic research skills in Nursing

· Certification in Infection Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC), preferred

· Maintains current knowledge of clinical infection including surveillance and prevention; trends; government laws and regulations; and related clinical practice and techniques

· Basic CPR (BCLS) Certification required

· Excellent communication skills, critical thinking, judgment, listening and interpersonal skills

· Cultural and linguistic sensitivity to populations served.

· Professional and community involvement, required

· Familiar with computers (i.e. Microsoft Office)

· Bilingual in English and Spanish or Creole preferred.
