Flexible staffing arrangement for Registered Nurses seeking additional hours, no more than an average of 29 hours per week.

VADOC Registered Nurses provide nursing care within adult institutions by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating institutional patients per the standards of practice.

Standard of care is achieved through a multitude of services to include 24-hour nursing care, telemedicine, chronic care clinics, sick call screenings/triage, medication administration, patient education, and basic life supporting/emergency care.

Document all pertinent information into the health record while practicing confidentiality and interfacing with other departments on an as-needed basis.

Registered Nurses possess the ability to delegate tasks and work load and work hours, days, and locations as assigned.

Registered Nurses are capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.

To provide evidence-based nursing care and promote continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.

Organizational Objective:

Provide total health care to offenders (routine, chronic and emergency care), maintaining continuity of care from admission to discharge.

Safe medication administration following DOC policy.

Provide employee health services in accordance with policy.

ACA standards of care, Health Services guidelines and policies, Operational policies and procedures are followed.

This wage RN position has an Enhanced Hiring Rate of $41.00 per hour from July 10, 2021 throughout December 31, 2022. Then the pay rate will return to the normal State RN hourly rate of $34.00 per hour on 01/01/2023.

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12 month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing program.

Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia RN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX-RN exam must be scheduled at the time of application).

Certified in Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers with current certification from an approved source.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment.

Prefer previous experience working with mental health patients.

Prefer experience in acute care and/or community health settings.

Special Requirements
