Day in the life of a Patient Safety Attendant:

The Patient Safety Attendant aids licensed staff always ensuring patient safety when one-on-one care is required for the patient and is ordered by the Licensed Independent Practitioner. Patient Safety Attendants are observers and assistants to the patient. They work with patients, staff and family members ensuring social needs are met by the patient, anticipates the needs of the patients, and assists in communicating those immediate needs to nursing staff. The Patient Safety Attendant does not perform nursing staff functions but may assist the patient in basic needs such as eating when authorized by the primary nurse.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Works in collaboration with Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Assistant providing safety of patients requiring individualized one-on-one care as ordered by the Licensed Provider.
  • Assists patients with individualized personal care (as coordinated with nursing staff).
  • Communicates with patients, staff and family members always assuring patient safety.
  • Accompanies patients during transfer from floor to floor or to procedures as assigned in order to assure safety and patient comfort in continuum of care.
  • Provides for non-clinical care needs such as environmental evaluation, linen changes (unoccupied bed only), or removal of trays, trash, etc.
  • Accommodates patient communication needs such as conversation, diversion, and distraction.
  • I understand that it is not within my scope of practice to handle any medications that I might inadvertently encounter, including medications delivered in the pneumatic tube system. If I do encounter medications, I know to alert a licensed employee for them to handle.

Minimum Requirements

Here is what you will need:

  • High school diploma or GED or Equivalent Certificate from an accredited program or higher
  • Successful completion of Patient Safety Attendant training provided by Cheyenne Regional Medical Center after hire
  • Cheyenne Regional RQI within 14 calendar days of start date

Nice to have:

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment
  • Registered or Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant
