The department of Undergraduate Admissions at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Admissions Counselor.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Regional Recruitment, this Admissions Counselor position supports recruitment initiatives and tasks as a part of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment. The specific duties are as follows, and secondary duties in support of recruitment will be assigned as needed.

What You'll Do

Travel in Support of Recruitment

  • Travel to high schools, college fairs, individual meetings, information sessions, college panels, and other university related events to recruit high school students.
  • Attend in-market recruitment events scheduled by EM/UR, the Alumni Office, the Parents Club, and the President’s Office.
  • Organize and schedule in-person high school visits, college fairs and information sessions as directed by supervisor.
  • Transport materials, set up recruitment displays and represent WVU with integrity and professionalism at recruitment events.
  • Plan and schedule travel arrangements and procedural filing as required by the University.

Communication and Outreach

  • Manage prospective student communication by phone, email, virtual, and print.
  • Provide information to prospective students, families, and school counselors regarding WVU admissions, financial aid, academics, and student life.
  • Facilitate assigned call and notecard campaigns throughout recruitment cycle.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to manage general email account.
  • Plan and execute proactive recruitment outreach via email, virtual, video, phone, and written communication to prospective students and constituents.
  • Partner with regional team to organize and execute virtual workshops for prospective students.
  • Help to establish and maintain databases of school counselors, educators and administrators in support of recruitment initiatives.

Office, Expenses and Technology

  • Independently establish, operate, and maintain a remote home-office space as directed by the Director of Regional Recruitment.
  • Provide space for and maintain an inventory of all admission publications and WVU materials.
  • Responsibly administrate an operational budget for travel with oversight by the Director of Regional Recruitment.
  • Accountable for use and maintenance of WVU issued technology.
  • Maintain professional memberships assigned and approved by supervisor.
  • Provide monthly recruitment and activity reports as directed by the Director of Regional Recruitment.
  • Document student communication and scheduled travel in the CRM.
  • Utilize technology platforms, such as Salesforce, Target X, and BANNER, to support students and recruitment initiatives.
  • Reconcile travel expenses using My Expenses.
  • Follow guidelines set by Shared Services and Risk Management for use of WVU rental car, accommodations, per diem, and expenditures.

On-Campus Events and Visitor Center Operations

  • Support on-campus recruitment events, such as Discover, Decide, Honors, Junior Open House, Go First Fridays, and Admitted Student Days.
  • During select months, assist the New Student Orientation Office with daily operations and onboarding of incoming students.
  • When assigned, support Visitor Center presentations, student interactions, or specialized group tours.
  • Represent the recruitment office at special events on-campus, such as school counselor tours, VIP, and consortium conferences.

Retreats and Trainings

  • Select dates may be assigned for on-campus training and retreats.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience in college admission counseling, sales, marketing, public relations, advising or counseling, and/or event planning.
  • Transport materials, set up recruitment displays, and represent WVU with integrity and professionalism at all
  • recruitment events.
  • Ability to relate to the concerns of prospective students and parents while counseling regarding future educational opportunities and financial obligations.
  • Outstanding commitment and demonstrated skills related to customer service.
  • Proven event planning and execution.
  • Excellent oral, written, communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing grammar, web-content, and promotional materials.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the undergraduate curricular and co-curricular experience at a large, public institution.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate constructively and collegially with peers throughout the WVU community.
  • Ability to travel and work extended nights/weekends as assigned.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to operate motor vehicle with valid driver’s license and physically capable of transporting and lifting materials over 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to qualify for a university procurement card.
