Position Summary

The department of biostatistics invites applications for an hourly research assistant position, requiring to work at least 20 hours per week, on missing data analysis of a hierarchical model for a partially observed binary outcome from a multisite intervention trial where children are randomly assigned to an intervention or a control within schools and where compliance to treatment assignment is imperfect. Under supervision of Dr. Yongyun Shin, the research assistant (RA) will program R code to implement a new missing data method to estimate the hierarchical model for binary outcomes, use the code to conduct a simulation study to validate the method and analyze data from the multisite trial, and coauthor a manuscript on the method and findings in Latex. In addition, the RA will make the R code user-friendly and accessible to a wide range of researchers. The employment will start in July, and last at least until December of this year.

Key Responsibilities:
  • write R code to implement a new missing data method to estimate a hierarchical model for binary outcomes
  • run a simulation to validate the method
  • prepare sample data from a multisite trial for analysis
  • estimate the model given the sample data
  • write a manuscript on the method and findings in Latex

Required Qualifications:
  • MS or PhD in Biostatistics or Statistics
  • proficiency in R programming
  • experience in missing data analysis and maximum likelihood estimation
  • experience in numerical integration
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU
