Research Associate in Chemistry Job at The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia
The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia Charlottesville, VA 22903
The NANO ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CATALYSIS LAB (Zhu lab) at the University of Virginia has an opening for a creative and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate interested in developing advanced catalytic materials for electrochemical water oxidation or small molecule conversion to chemicals and fuels.
This position requires expertise in electrochemistry as well as synthesis and characterization of well-defined nanoscale and sub-nanoscale materials to understand the structure-property relationships and involves the development of techniques for the characterization of catalysts under electrochemical operando conditions. The research involves a partnership with collaborators at UVA, Virginia Tech, Argonne National Laboratory, and Brookhaven National Laboratory. QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD in either Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or related fields is required by the start date. The candidate needs to demonstrate a solid track record in nanostructured materials, synthesis, catalysis, and characterization techniques, with demonstrated integration of experimental skills and theoretical insights. Knowledge of synchrotron-based techniques, especially X-ray absorption spectroscopy, is preferred, but not required. The project requires organizational, communication, and leadership skills as the candidate is expected to play a prominent role in the laboratory as a mentor for both graduate and undergraduate students and assist in the set-up, organization, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
