R&D / Technical Support Manager
American & Efird (A&E), a global provider of advanced, high quality products and mission critical textile solutions, is seeking an assertive, high energy, self-starting, results driven and proven problem solver to join our team as the R&D / Technical Support Manager in Mount Holly, NC.
This is a key position that contributes to the achievement of the company’s objectives supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities. This role provides vision, direction, and focus for the development of new raw materials and related inputs for manufacturing facilities. This role focuses on identifying process and product improvement opportunities by leading, managing and executing initiatives from conception to completion. The R&D / Technical Support Manager works closely with manufacturing, continuous improvement, sales, suppliers and customers.
This position is responsible for (This is not a complete job description):
- working with operations to understand how current manufacturing processes meet A&E’s needs and develop quality, efficiency or cost improvements with local management teams
- finding and developing new raw materials and solutions to grow A&E’s capabilities
- collaborating with quality deployment to develop and test fiber specifications and qualifications
- coordinating and setting key initiatives that focus on the global scope of A&E’s business segments
- evaluating existing manufacturing operations to improve machine efficiency and reduce cost of waste
- supporting efforts that ensure the product quality is maintained and is being continuously improved
- evaluating global equipment vendors to ensure that A&E is aware and evaluating new technology
- working with corporate engineering to evaluate equipment vendor’s offerings
- attending textile trade shows to seek out new technology or methods that can assist A&E in meeting customer needs
- assisting Sales to acquire new business, maintain market share, develop target accounts and resolve customer concerns
- educating customers on the key characteristics of fibers, thread construction and A&E’s product line with respect to sewing performance, durability and strategic cost
- supporting and administering company policies and procedures consistently
- ensuring good housekeeping in all areas of the facility including manufacturing, distribution, and office areas
- meeting or exceeding all performance and productivity standards
- promoting a safe and healthy work environment on all company property to achieve the best working conditions for all employees and visitors
- ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company policies and procedures
- performing other assignments as requested or as business needs require
This position requires:
- BS degree in Quality Engineering/Process Engineering, or related field, with a minimum of 2 years of product and process improvement experience in a manufacturing environment
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, with willingness to further your knowledge in problem solving and continuous improvement methods
- Experience in dealing directly with customers related to customer complaints and 8D problem solving method
- Textile experience, in sewing thread manufacturing preferred. Basic knowledge of sewing processes a plus
- Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Demonstrated success coaching/training quality tools and concepts to include root cause analysis (8D)
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and provide expected results
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
- Work cooperatively, courteously, and respectfully with all team members, vendors, and visitors
- Follow verbal and written instructions
- Comply with company processes and procedures
- Successfully complete drug and background screenings
