Callon Petroleum is currently accepting resumes for a Business Development Reservoir Engineer based in the Houston, TX office. Callon Petroleum Company offers competitive pay, paid time off, paid holidays along with a benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in development of type curves for A&D candidates, including composing type curve areas and well lists based on like-for-like attributes (including but not limited to subsurface conditions, target zone, vintage, D&C design, well-spacing, etc.), refinement and application of parent-child/co-development risking methodology, identifications of offset analogue pad/project developments
  • Collaborate with internal Land, Operations and Asset Teams on the identification and evaluation of acquisition/divestiture/leasing/trade and asset optimization opportunities and the associated technical, commercial, and strategic merits and risks
  • Assist in development of operating and capital cost and other commercial assumptions for A&D candidates
  • Assist in continuous improvement of internal best practices for A&D evaluation and related processes
  • Perform scoping work on potential acquisition targets and/or divestiture candidates based on internal private data and publicly available data sources
  • Liaise and coordinate workflows on A&D initiatives with external advisors and internal teams, as appropriate
  • Gather, analyze and integrate information from Land, Marketing, Accounting, and various other disciplines into acquisition and/or divestiture evaluations and associated materials
  • Interpret well results in the context of reservoir fluids, completion design, well spacing, flowback strategy, and artificial lift installation from a reservoir engineering standpoint
  • Work closely with Subsurface and Asset Team Geologists and Reservoir Engineers to interpret well results and assign estimated upside value of additional zones inside and outside Callon operated areas
  • Assist Corporate Development Team and other departments to form technical views on active areas within and outside of the organization’s core areas
  • Perform and/or assist in scoping work for potential A&D opportunities, including asset trades, joint ventures, basin studies, advances in well performance / cost structure / technical practices
  • Develop and present technical presentation materials for management relating A&D target valuations
  • Assist in the data aggregation/analysis for divestiture process virtual data rooms
  • Pro-actively engage with peers across industry, private equity, investment banking, etc., to supplement business intelligence gathering efforts, including data trades, transaction and valuation insights, other emerging commercial and technical market themes, etc. to understand potential implications for existing Callon assets as well as potential A&D opportunities
  • Monitor and analyze competitor data, development strategies & industry trends to help build internal development models to assist with valuing acreage on and near Callon’s operated areas
  • Analyze and integrate geological, reservoir, production, operational, land and financial data and incorporate into economic models (ARIES platform)
Requirements:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related discipline
  • 3+ years’ relevant reservoir engineering and transaction experience at an operator, private equity sponsor and/or investment bank
  • Experience in Permian Basin, Eagle Ford and/or other onshore Lower 48 basins
  • MS Office suite, Aries and Spotfire software proficiency is essential
  • Background in or experience with data management / science / analytics is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of any or all of the following is a plus: VBA / Alteryx / Power Pivot / Data Models, SQL / Other databases, PowerBI / Other Data Visualization Tools, DCA software (ComboCurve, Harmony), Enverus suite of products, ArcGIS / Other GIS software, NoviLab / Petro.ai / Other ML/AI subsurface modeling tools
