Job Summary: Primary responsibility for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of each assigned patient. Plans provide, and documents discharge planning, teaching, and educates patients, family members, or others to attain optimal health and continuity of care. Assures that the plan of care is carried out in a safe environment through performance and supervision of all subordinate nursing personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Utilizing the nursing processes completes comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessment of patients
  • Using nursing process, plan and provides patient/ family care and evaluates patients’ response to care provided and redirects care as necessary.
  • Implements and monitors appropriate nursing care to meet patient’s needs and identify expected outcome for planned nursing interventions and ensure vital information is passed between shifts.
  • Participates in the health care educational needs of the client, family, and significant others with regard to patient care needs, disease prevention, and health maintenance measures.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records according to hospital policy and procedures.


  • Responsible for a patient care plan that is current and reflects patient’s individual needs and preferences of patients and other(s).
  • Documents interdisciplinary recommendations for a plan of care.
  • Transcribes and notes physicians’ orders completely and accurately according to hospital policy and practice.
  • Completes all appropriate transfer and discharge forms.
  • Makes assignments of nursing personnel on a shift based on their knowledge, skills, and professional level.


  • Other Significant Requirements.
  • Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  • Provides direct service to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
  • Interacts with patients, family members, department managers and medical staff members on a continuous basis.
  • Follows aseptic policies and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials.
  • Follows safety guidelines and policies for the hospital.
  • Manages workforce and delegates work but not accountability and responsibility.
  • Participates in staff education and attends mandatory meetings.
  • Responsible for own education requirements to comply with Board of Nurse Examiners regulations.
  • Understands and complies with Center for Disease Control and Infections Control guidelines.
  • Manages nursing personnel in a cost efficient manner.
  • Assists with staffing in relation to patient acuity and census.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs other duties that may be necessary or are in the best interest of the company as assigned by the DON.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL rEQUIREMENTS:

Work performed in an office and hospital settings.

Subject to long, irregular hours.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about facilities

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Possesses skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Theories of nursing
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Principles of patient satisfaction
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knows and practices the requirements of the Board of Nursing Examiners Act


Education and Experience:

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Oklahoma

One to Two years of experience in clinical nursing.
