The Unit Manager assumes 24-hour responsibility for directing and coordinating resident/patient care in the assigned nursing unit (approximately 40 to 50 beds) in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations and Keswick’s nursing care standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
1. Resident/Patient Care: Directs nursing care provided by registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, geriatric nurse assistants, and others for whom this position is administratively or professionally responsible; holds nursing staff accountable for the care they deliver to patients; reviews documentation prepared by subordinates for completeness and accuracy daily; ensures that significant changes in resident/patient condition are communicated to the physician, family or responsible party; works collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary care team to provide holistic care; follows the facility’s communicable diseases, infection control and isolation procedures; ensures that the Infection Control Program is maintained at all times.
2. Clinical Rounds: Performs clinical rounds on assigned nursing units and dining room areas daily to assess patient safety and comfort and regulatory compliance and to ensure that nursing staff are performing their work assignments in accordance with established nursing standards.
3. Care Planning: Leads the care planning process including initial planning (upon admission), interim planning (clinical status changes), and the required documentation; develops a plan of care based on assessment; updates care plans according to changes in resident/patient condition or status; monitors nursing documents daily; ensures that MDS records are complete and current.
4. Admission, Transfer and Discharge: Oversees the resident/patient admission and discharge processes and ensures that all steps have been completed; assists as needed to ensure efficiency and timely completion.
5. Reporting: Participates in “huddles” daily and PRN to review operational and patient care issues; completes 24-hour report daily and submits to the Senior Director of Nursing or Baker Director of Nursing; keeps Senior Director of Nursing or Baker Director of Nursing apprised of all relevant information regarding patients and staff; completes the Daily Census.
6. Orientation, Training and Supervision: collaborates with the Staff Development Coordinators to ensure appropriate orientation of nursing staff and students on the unit; uses incidents as opportunities to coach staff on correct procedures; assesses the clinical competencies of staff and addresses opportunities for improvement; provides clinical leadership to unit staff; completes performance evaluations for all unit employees within expected timeframe; may assist in the provision of educational programs for the facility.
7. Quality Improvement: Participates actively in the quality improvement (QI) process by identifying opportunities for process improvement, attending QI focused unit based and facility wide committee meetings; submits required reports; recommends plans for improvements;
8. Compliance: Complies with regulatory and legislative requirements; participates in federal, state and local surveys and inspections as requested; follows established plans of correction; reports abuse, neglect or violence according to established procedures; refers complaints from patients, families, or physicians to the Senior Director of Nursing or the Director of Nursing—Baker.
9. Environment: Ensures the unit’s work areas, resident/patient rooms and treatment areas are maintained in a clear and sanitary manner in compliance with regulatory agencies and fire codes; monitors supplies and orders refills as needed.
10. Administration: Oversees staffing assignments, taking into consideration resident/patient safety and the education, experience, knowledge and ability of the persons being assigned; reviews and adjusts the staffing pattern as needed. Ensures scheduling of lunch and of breaks consistent with resident/patient care needs. ; approves the correction of errors in timekeeping records; authorizes overtime as necessary. Establishes and maintain fiscal practices consistent with cost containment practice and policies developed by the Department of Nursing submits required reports to support variances. Assumes the duties of the Director of Nursing as delegated in in his/her absence.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited registered nurse curriculum is required; Bachelors degree in Nursing preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION:
Active Registered Nurse licensure without disciplinary infractions by Maryland Board of Nursing.
Certification in Infection Control preferred
Current AHA HCP BLS certification required.
IV insertion skills required.
WORK ORIENTATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Requires 5 years of prior nursing experience in an acute or long-term care setting including 2 recent years in a supervisory role.

Pay: $99,000.00 - $116,000.00 per year
