Job Description Summary
- The Robotics & Automation Engineer will lead the Robotics, Automation and Maintenance division at Underwood Ammunition. The RAE is responsible for the development, training, and maintenance support for advanced robotics, mechanical and pneumatic processes & systems for the ammunition manufacturer. She/he will troubleshoot repair, and maintain robot controllers, electrical control devices, mechanical units, transfer devices and peripheral equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Learn and/or develop industrial robotic and automated applications
- Learn and/or Develop robot simulation models and off-line programs
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the robots and associated process equipment
- Provide technical support to operators and technical workers through system troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Train operators and technical workers in robot programming, maintenance, and process applications
- Be responsible for establishing maintenance and PM plans through the industrialization process for network of existing and future manufacturing facilities.
- Implement lean methodologies and tools in the identification, development, and industrialization of mechanics, robotics, and automation in processes for the organization.
- Be responsible for maintaining and updating Robotics Database and Robot Management System
- Provide continuous improvement support and seek out opportunities to improve robotics and automation across the new unit and services network.
- Collaborate with supply chain, component team, productivity, and other UA organizations to identify opportunities for projects and improvement within the supply chain network.
- Maintain schedules for project deliverables
- Communicate progress to all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience FANUC
· Ability to read and write FANUC Robotics Code
· Prior experience with FANUC software such as iVision, and iRpickTool software.
· Prior experience with Allen Bradley and Rockwell Automation software.
· Advance computer skills
· Fanuc robot basic maintenance and preventative maintenance.
· Ability to diagnose, trouble shoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and software malfunctions.
· Ability to perform part changeovers, basic maintenance, and preventive maintenance.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics (or high school diploma with equivalent work experience in the field of manufacturing, robotics, engineering, or related field)
- At least 5 additional years of experience in an engineering position
- 3+ years of experience with automated equipment, troubleshooting & maintenance of automated/robotic cells.
- Formal technical training in automated equipment maintenance and troubleshooting on robotic cells and PLC/HMI reprogramming Master certification (preferred).
Desired Characteristics
- Hands on experience in robot operations, sensors, servo systems and motion control systems
- Programming experience in one or more industrial robot brands- FANUC, ABB, KUKA, MOTOMAN, (FANUC preferred).
- Experience in off-line robot programming and simulation packages- RobCad, RoboGuide, RobotStudio, I- Grip, etc.
- CAD knowledge
- Working knowledge of I/O, PLC and bus communication
- Ability to read mechanical/electrical drawings
- Advance English language skills
- Able and willing to travel between two facilities in Sparta Illinois
- Good project management skills. Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
- Ability to train and share knowledge with others
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Familiarity with shop operations and quality systems
- Product knowledge and/or industry knowledge.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
- Maintain a service tool kit and documentation to facilitate rapid customer response.
- Provide telephone-based troubleshooting support to customers to resolve robot or related peripheral equipment operational problems on as needed basis.
- Robot and system programming and path editing of robot and related peripheral equipment to restore, maintain or optimize system performance.
- Conduct the electrical/hydraulic pneumatic debug, peripheral device programming, machine PLC programming, coordinate the machine debug, power-up, and machine validation.
- Install and repair industrial electronic equipment including I/O networks, data highways, variable speed drives, process control equipment, for a wide variety of automated control systems ranging from simple on-off control to robotics.
