Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator provides administrative and field safety oversight, leadership and technical expertise on current projects within the organization. The Safety Coordinator will regularly visit multiple jobsites to ensure compliance in set safety policies and regulations. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating efforts to ensure compliance with site specific safety plans, corporate safety plans and policies, project requirements, and all Federal, State, local requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Observes work activities of various projects on a daily basis to evaluate compliance with safe work behaviors.
- Undertakes responsibility for recognition of contractor non-compliance with project procedures, safety program requirements, and operations contract documents.
- At site work zones, inspect work plans for work in progress and verify work is being safely performed, monitors use of appropriate PPE.
- Performs reviews and audits of safety protocols, procedures, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), safety reports, inspections, behavioral observations and documentation.
- Initiates and monitors new job safety procedures and programs as the work may dictate. Conducting surveys/audits to ensure compliance with project safety program, OSHA, and state safety standards and regulations.
- Assures that accurate, complete and timely information regarding health and safety observations, incidents, concerns and corrective actions (e.g. daily reports, Toolbox Talk records, etc.) are being done.
- Investigates and follows-up with near misses and incidents occurring at the site.
- Initiates the emergency response procedures as necessary, assisting as required.
- Conducts required health and safety inspections and monitoring for field staff and prepares written reports to the Project Manager.
- Ensures project specific safety training is provided to notify all employees, including subcontractors, of site-specific safety requirements, Contractor’s site-specific plans, and required Federal, State, and local laws, rules and regulations.
- Maintains open line of communication with Project Manager, providing suggestions to PM and construction management personnel to ensure project compliance with all safety provisions of the contract, including all applicable health and safety plans, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Communicates with outside organizations as required such as Worker’s Compensation carriers, vendors, etc.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Completed and current OSHA 30 Hour Certification (or completion within 3 months of hire).
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA and common safety practices.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Computer skills, including at least MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
- Willingness to “roll up his sleeves” and do what is necessary to get the job done.

- Ability to deal tactfully in human issues with colleagues.
- Ability to create and maintain cooperative team building relationships.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- A minimum of five years of safety, safety management or environment & safety experience.
- Safety Construction experience required. Subcontractor, construction and manufacturing experience preferred.
- OSHA 30 Hour Certification highly desired.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods outside, in the sun, on field construction sites.
- Travel around the Orlando area is required.
