DEPARTMENT: Great Hearts Texas Home Office, Operations Department

LOCATION: Great Hearts Texas Home Office with frequent travel to the campuses

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Business Operations

FLSA STATUS: Full-time Benefits Eligible, Salary, Exempt

Time Commitment and Reporting: This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position, reporting to the Vice President of Business Operations

Job Summary

This position is responsible for developing, organizing, and managing the Great Hearts Texas safety and security program and emergency management operations. This position will establish, review, and communicate security policies and procedures, evaluate security programs, prepare and maintain budget, and develops a training program that exceeds state and local requirements and industry best practices. This position develops and maintains the Great Hearts standard emergency plans and procedures, leads the involvement with local and state safety agencies as it relates to planning and executing GH TX response before, during and after disasters, emergencies and drills. Will coordinate and collaborate with school safety teams to maintain all safety procedures and mandatory drills.

This role will have dotted line oversight of school safety personnel. (School Safety Coordinators)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administration of security policies, procedures, and programs to ensure effective safety and security throughout the Great Hearts network.
  • Ensure that State requirements are met including the School Safety Audit which occurs every three years.
  • Coordinates with Headmasters to lead the school safety coordinators to maintain safety programs within the school.
  • Contributes to creating the budget for academy safety and security needs and requirements.
  • Maintains the Regional safety and security budget.
  • Works to acquire safety equipment that is appropriate to the needs of the schools, collaborates with facilities and work within the budget.
  • Plans an ongoing professional development program for school personnel that meets or exceeds state standards for safety and security practices.
  • Executes the procedures and protocols to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from emergencies while maintaining the Great Hearts Emergency Plan along with individual school crisis plans.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with local, state, ands federal public safety agencies on all matters related to school safety.
  • Participates in ongoing training and professional development to increase skills and proficiency related to assigned duties.
  • Serves as a liaison with the Facilities Department to oversee the maintenance, repair, and development of the network’s safety equipment

Qualifications, Competencies and Strengths

  • Minimum age is 18 years.
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
  • Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working within a school environment.
  • Certification in Emergency Management is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of security management principles, best practices, and related laws and policies required.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office required.
  • Valid TX driver’s license.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a team of indirect reports while setting and implementing safety policies, evaluating security program, preparing budgets, developing and implementing safety training, maintaining emergency plans, and consistently monitoring and updating safety practices to best serve the Great Hearts TX community.
