Job description
Utility Metering Solutions (UMS) is looking for a motivated Safety Representative for our Akron, Ohio project. This role will be responsible for ensuring our Akron workforce has all of the tools needed to work safely. The role will also serve as a confined space entry supervisor on multiple occasions. To be successful in this role you must have a knowledge of OSHA standards, specifically confined space entry, and be able to affect change in the workforce to bolster our safety culture even more.
Daily tasks may include work site inspections; equipment inspections; answering complex safety questions and supplying workers with necessary PPE at the beginning of the workday
Experience and Training:
- 2 plus years of safety experience desired
- OSHA 10-hour and/or 30-hour is a plus
- Confined Space Entry Training with Non-Entry Rescue
- First Aid & CPR certified desired
- Fire Watch and Fire Extinguisher Training is desired
Skills/Attributes Required:
- A strong interest in workplace health and safety
- Ability to facilitate communication between Field Service Manager, Installers, and Safety Department.
- Strong Confined Space Entry experience
- General understanding of OSHA standards.
- Computer Skills: General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Web-based programs such as ClickUp, and Microsoft Teams experience a plus.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
- Serve as Attendant / Supervisor for Permit Required Confined Space Entries
- Perform Non-Entry Rescue if needed.
- Conduct job site safety checks
- Lead daily health and safety meetings each morning
- Assist Safety Department in developing and implementing Job Hazard Analysis
- Conduct daily inspections of safety equipment
- Assist the Safety Department in conducting incident investigations as needed.
- Report to the Health and Safety Manager on a daily basis via phone, e-mail, or web
- Address safety concerns and questions brought up by field employees.
- Serve as Fire Watch as needed for hot work.
- Contribute to the development of an effective Occupational Health and Safety culture.
- Interface with Emergency Responders if needed
Must have:
- Reliable transportation
- Valid Driver’s License
- High-school graduate or equivalent
- Safety background

Physical demands:

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. The noise level in the field environment is usually moderate.
Personal Protective Equipment:
No specific requirements for the office environment. When conducting site visits, comply with project-specific requirements and basic PPE requirements as indicated in the UMS Safety Manual.

Salary: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
