The Safety Specialist ensures the development, implementation and updating of safety programs at Eagle Mountain Casino. Administers the Workers Compensation Program, including the review and processing of claims, recommending loss control strategies, instructing Team Members on workers compensation issues, and ensuring conformance to applicable laws and regulations while maintaining a high level of guest service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer, direct and manage compliance with the company safety program and accident prevention efforts to ensure company safety goals are met.
  • Develop, organize, and implement safety related programs that meet company safety standards. This includes the ability to determine safety training needs and make independent judgments concerning the general safety of our work.
  • Administer the workers compensation program, including reviewing Team Member and supervisor injury reports, monitoring claims, recommending loss control/ safety assurance strategies, assisting Team Members with workers compensation issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Initiate, perform, and document jobsite inspections and audits with special emphasis on hazard recognition, unsafe behaviors and correction of potential third party, asset loss, and workers compensation losses. This necessitates the ability to think independently, communicate thoroughly, and facilitate the implementation of corrections/behaviors.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and conduct safety meetings and training programs to ensure the effective communication of company policy, and safety standards.
  • Coordinate and participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Compiles and submits all necessary reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate and control the development and review of job hazard analysis for each major phase of our work to ensure its safe completion.
  • Investigate, prepare, and maintain a record of all third party, asset loss, and workers compensation claims to make certain that the interests of the company are preserved.
  • Ability to consistently act with integrity and credibility, by abiding by and enforcing safety standards on a daily basis.
  • Conduct accident investigations. Be the first point of contact should an incident occur and ensure proper reporting, incident investigations and follow-up.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Safety, Occupational Health or related field and/or a Minimum (3) years experience in related safety environment.
  • Must possess a valid California Drivers License and be insurable through Eagle Mountain Casinos insurance carrier.
  • Knowledge of Fall Protection and Injury/First Aid Injury standards, and D.O.T. regulations.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, other applicable state and federal agency guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards for multiple industries.
  • Thorough understanding of record keeping requirements, incident reporting, incident investigations, and timeframes for each program.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail is needed to maintain awareness of existing and proposed safety regulations and company guidelines plus maintain and analyze appropriate data.
  • Ability to work or be on call including nights and weekends depending on company needs and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.
  • Must be proactive and have the ability to make independent judgments to manage and facilitate company programs/policies as they relate to the safety of our work
  • Ability to instruct and counsel Team Members in the details of the work they perform (by enforcement) to improve safety performance.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and ability to learn other job related programs and software
  • Bilingual Spanish-English proficiency desired
  • Knowledge of all basic office equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a gaming license through the Tule River Tribe Gaming Commission.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL:

  • While performing duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, and sit.
  • Repeatedly required to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance, and stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
  • The noise level is usually low, increasing to loud when on the casino floor.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to operate in mentally and physically stressful situations.
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

REPORTS TO: Benefit and Compliance Administrator

SUPERVISES: None

HOURS: Monday Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM; Hours will vary and weekend work will be required.

SALARY: $r.; Weekly pay/Overtime Eligible
