Sawmill Superintendent Job at Zip-O-Log Mills, Inc.
Zip-O-Log Mills, Inc., a family owned wood products company providing top quality 100% Douglas Fir products for over 78 years, is seeking a Sawmill Superintendent for our Eugene Oregon Cuttings Sawmill. This position will provide leadership to achieve key operational objectives in safety, reliability, production, quality, and cost.
The successful candidate will focus on maintaining high productivity, efficiency and accident prevention levels through effective supervision, mentoring, operator knowledge/skill improvement, cross training, workforce management and process/equipment optimization.
The Sawmill Superintendent will be able to effectively manage high priority tasks and projects and possess strong problem-solving skills to achieve optimum solutions and successful outcomes.
Responsibilities:
· Supervise and provide leadership for production leads and workers.
· Ensure compliance of all quality standards and checks.
· Set up, operation and maintenance of log and lumber scanning systems and controls.
· Responsible for meeting production schedules and the maximization of results.
· Maintaining a safe work environment.
· Coordination with maintenance personnel on upkeep of machinery to minimize downtime.
· Monitor inventory and working with the Sales Department to ensure customer needs are met.
· Promote continuous improvement and reliability.
· Establish high morale by showing fairness and consistency in addressing/resolving employee issues or problems.
· Overseeing the training of employees, planning and assigning work.
· Report to Management any issues that might affect production or plant operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
· 5+ years of wood products manufacturing experience as a Supervisor, preferably in the manufacturing of Timbers and/or Lumber.
· Computer literate, including a strong background in Microsoft Office.
· Excellent interpersonal, conflict management, coaching and problem solving skills.
· Must be assertive, a good communicator and have a strong work ethic.
· Must have good decision-making skills, a strong attention to detail ant set a positive example.
