General Statement of Duties


  • This is a 12 Month position.
  • Must have a Master's Degree in School Counseling.
  • To provide direct professional, educational, career and general developmental counseling services to students.


Essential Duties


The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

  • Provides academic, personal/social, and career counseling
  • Conducts classroom guidance lessons and small group counseling
  • Coordinates comprehensive school counseling program
  • Serves as Department Chair
  • Communicates with parents and agency representatives
  • Designs and implements behavior modification programs for students
  • Coordinates teacher and parent conferences as needed
  • Interprets test data and student records for parents and teachers
  • Daily attendance
  • Engaged and on task
  • Performs other duties as required
Must have a thorough knowledge of the curriculum, instruction and counseling/guidance theory and practice. Counseling skills must include problem identification/analysis skills and basic therapy resolution. Communication skills, both oral and written, must be highly developed to meet the diverse needs of the clientele, professional staff and other community agencies. Must be able to organize and carry out student activity programs; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Post-graduate certification/licensure/endorsement in elementary, middle, or high school guidance by the Virginia Department of Education.
  • Master's Degree with emphasis in guidance and/or school counseling and three years of successful school counseling experience.


Additional Information


This vacancy is for the 2022-23 school year.

  • Minimum *Annual Starting Salary: $65,792.17

(*The start date for this assignment was July 1, 2022. Therefore, annual salary for this position will be prorated to the official start date.)
