The Position
The Public Works Department is now accepting applications for School Crossing Guard! School Crossing Guard Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists children with crossing the street while going to and from school
- Stops and controls vehicular traffic at designated intersections to allow children to cross safely
- Directs children using the crosswalk to assure that they conform to school zone regulations
- Directs motorists so that they conform to school zone regulations while crossing children
- Checks traffic signals and school zone flashing lights for proper operation and reports any mal-functions
- Reports motorists who violate traffic laws, or suspicious subjects at or near schools, to the School Crossing Guard Supervisor
- Interacts with students, parents, and school district employees
- Position requires: standing, walking, carrying, reaching, vision, hearing, twisting, and verbal communication
- Exerting up to 8 pounds frequently, walking or standing for extended periods of time.
- Applicants may be subjected to adverse weather, wetness, respiratory hazards, noise, and busy road-ways.

- Work experience that demonstrates dependability and safety

- Keen observation skills.
- Valid California Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Crossing Guard principles and practices;- applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; customer service principles
- prioritizing actions in order to safely cross children at intersections
- interpret and follow school crossing guard policies and procedures;
- interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and the general public.
