The Opportunity.

The Seasonal Steward works in concert with the Stewardship Manager to deliver excellent standards in maintenance of the Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens Portfolio properties, including enhancing the visitor experience. The Steward also supports stewardship projects, programming, and events as needed. The successful candidate will be based at Moraine Farm but will also support stewardship work across the portfolio which includes Weir Hill, Ward Reservation, Mary Cummings Park, and Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens. This position is full-time and seasonal position.

In This Role You Will:

• Work with, and under the direction of, the Property Director and Stewardship Manager to plan and perform the day-to-day maintenance, stewardship, and conservation of properties.

• Implement seasonal maintenance programs for grounds keeping, and as directed.

• Assist specialist teams (trails, buildings & structures, ecology, horticulture, collections) as needed in stewardship conservation projects.conserv

• Support visitor experience, safety, and services through safety patrols, monitoring, and ensuring proper wayfinding, and clean and functioning facilities.

• Support special events (including wedding setup) and other significant programs that expand the visibility of the properties and The Trustees.

• Represent The Trustees in a variety of forums.

• May be required to work on weekends and/or evenings to attend meetings, or to ensure the protection of the property and/or the safety of the visiting public.

• Participation in activities at other Trustees properties may occasionally be required.

• Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

Qualifications

• Previous professional experience associated with the responsibilities of the position.

• Excellent “people skills” to lead, inspire, motivate and work cooperatively and harmoniously with fellow employees, volunteers, committees, members and the public.

• Must have formal landscape maintenance, trails maintenance, roadway grading, and/or field maintenance experience.

• Experience maintaining cultural/historic landscapes and/or maintaining structures and building systems a plus.

• Experience with minor plumbing and irrigation repairs, painting, and carpentry.

• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.

• Proven ability to complete assigned tasks and projects, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.

• The ability to operate motor vehicles, tractor/loader, and turf maintenance equipment.

• Experience using a chainsaw, string trimmer, blower and other small power tools.

• Basic computer skills.

Compensation and Benefits

About the Properties

Currently the Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens Portfolio consists of six properties, comprising public gardens and historic homes, recreational trails, open fields, wetlands, agricultural land, and forests. The properties in full are: Mary Cummings Park, Moraine Farm, Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens, the Stevens Lots, Ward Reservation, and Weir Hill.
