Job Description
Learning Support Teacher (Working with students with Ministry of Education designations) – Full-time (1.0 FTE) Continuing (begins August 30, 2023)
This teacher is responsible for the following:
- Case management, development and implementation of Ministry of Education-funded programs for students with designations
- Direct supervision and management of between ten (10) to twelve (12) educational assistants (EAs)
- The formulation of extensive Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students meeting any one of the Ministry’s designations for students
- Working in collaboration with the School Based Team (Administrators, Counsellors and Learning Support Teachers)
- All communication with teachers, parents, medical professionals and other community-based professionals who provide varying levels of support for students with Ministry designations
Successful applicants will possess the following education, training and experience:
- Demonstrated ability and experience in using Ministry Special Education criteria and to set up and implement adapted or modified programs
- Demonstrated ability and experience in formulating extensive Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students meeting any one of the Ministry of Education’s designations for students with special needs
- Demonstrated ability and experience in leading and supervising teams of people
- Demonstrated ability and experience in working as part of a School Based Team
- Skill in developing instructional and behavioural strategies to assist classroom teachers
- Strong communication skills as evidenced with parents, teachers, other school-based resource team members, and other community-based professionals
- Asset: Qualified to administer Level B assessments and interpret or explain Educational Psychologist reports
