Summary: *
Responsible for the safety and security of hotel property, assets, guests, employees and visitors while at the hotel. This position will follow safety and security standards and complete incident reports as required. This is a highly visible role which requires exceptional customer service, problem solving skills, and a true desire to satisfy the needs of others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *

  • Maintain complete awareness of: a) Scheduled group activities and house count. b) Hotel facilities and services. c) Hours of operation. d) Facility layout. e) Fire and emergency plans. f) Departmental rules of conduct.
  • Review department log records and be familiar with pertinent information relevant to the daily shift. Review the hotel status and follow up actions with the previous shift’s Security Guard and/or Manager.
  • Spend majority of shift on foot patrol, walking, climbing stairs of the interior and perimeter of the hotel to observe and identify potential security and safety risks, undesirable conditions or inoperative safety equipment.
  • Patrols lobbies, corridors, and public rooms, confers with management, interviews guests and employees, and questions persons to identify more information and investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalisms, and accidents.
  • Required to assist with valet parking guest vehicles and helping with luggage when needed.
  • Notify staff of presence of persons with questionable reputations.
  • Assist management and enforcement officers in emergency situations.
  • Responsible for all lost and found property turned into the officer until such property is returned to owner of property.
  • Maintain security log book and daily records as required of inventory and tasks.
  • Attentive to the radio and be alert for any emergency situation.
  • Complete incident reports to document all Security/Loss Prevention related incidents.
  • Coordinate expedient response to emergency conditions such as fire, fire or safety hazards and threats to life and/or property in a calm, rational and persuasive manner.
  • Handle undesired conduct and potential violations of hotel policy as warranted for the security and safety of hotel guests, associates, patrons and property.
  • Watch for suspicious persons entering, exiting, or loitering around building. Conduct walk through observations of entire hotel. Promote safe work practices.
  • Observe the security monitors for any unusual activity and in the case of suspicious behavior report directly, via radio, to the supervisor on duty; report any alarms similarly.
  • Memorize and monitor life safety system installed at property including layout of entire building, alarm pull stations, location of fire extinguisher and sprinklers.
  • Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Essential): *

  • High school graduate or equivalent vocational training.
  • Criminal-free record.
  • Minimum of one year of security related background required.
  • Knowledge of local laws, investigative methods and fire safety.
  • Ability to provide legible communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to accurately compute mathematical calculations and use required measurement tools.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Qualifications (Desired): *

  • Two years of college education.
  • Previous experience in police department work.
  • Knowledge of local laws, investigative methods and fire safety.
  • Valid certification in C.P.R. and first aid.
  • Certification in alcohol awareness program.
  • Computer training.
  • Ability to communicate in a second language, preferably Spanish.
  • Prior guest relations training.

  • Thorough knowledge of the layout of the building, function rooms, and some knowledge of the city and surrounding areas.
  • Complete knowledge of Emergency Equipment Manual, i.e., utility and water shutoff equipment, fire alarm system/panel and emergency procedures, etc.
  • Ability to deal with management, associates, guests, and general public in a courteous, tactful and patient manner.
  • Strong problem solving, mediation, coaching, and consulting skills.
  • Ability to sustain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of energy and take a proactive and strategic approach to dealing with issues.
  • Ability to provide legible communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.   • Able to remain calm in emergency and/or stressful situations.
  • Ability to sustain long periods of time on your feet, while patrolling the hotel for guest observations, safety and guest service.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-pace, high energy and demanding work environment.
  • Associates are required to comply with hotel and/or department uniform and professional attitude and appearance standards.
  • Must have ability to work flexible hours including weekends as assigned by General Manager.

Special Requirements: *

  • The hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Weekly work schedule may vary and will fluctuate based on business demand. The Security Guard must maintain a flexible schedule and be readily available.
  • Adherence to all PHG, Hotel Brand, State and local Safety Guidelines including but limited to use of non-slip shoes, utilization of back brace when lifting heavy items, etc.
  • Associates are expected to carry out all reasonable requests by team leaders and managers and act as a team player with all levels of staff.
  • Adhere to requirements, policies, and procedures as outlined in Employee Handbook and/or other property documents.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.50 - $17.00 per hour
