Overview
The security team at IDA has an exciting opportunity for a Security Officer Team Lead. This position is responsible for the supervision of the security officer force for IDA SAC and STPI. Responsibilities include supervision, training and scheduling the work of the security officer force, and overseeing building security. Due to the nature of the work and the requirement at times for extended coverage, this position is often required to work overtime hours or hours outside of a regularly scheduled shift.
Responsibilities
Coordinates the activities of the security officer force to provide building security as required by DoD Regulation 5220.22M, National Industrial Security Operating Manual (NISPOM) and IDA Security Practices:
- Ensures that the necessary Security Officers are on duty or may be required to fill in and perform the full range of security officer duties if necessary.
- Monitors schedule of meetings, conferences, training, etc., and ensures that security officer coverage, escort coverage, and parking arrangements are adequate and effective.
- Prepares and directs shift assignments for security officers, special assignments and emergency activities.
- Assists Shift Leads with the completion of paperwork involving safes or closed rooms left open.
- Performs bag inspections at IDA SAC and STPI as outlined by the Physical Security Manager.
Supervision of security officer force:
- Scheduling: ensures that the necessary Security Officers are on duty and may perform the full range of security officer duties if necessary. May review and approve timesheets for assigned direct report. As part of the scheduling process, approves or denies time off requests.
- Participates in interviews and assists in the recruitment of security officer candidates.
- Under guidance, ensures training and career development are accomplished as needed.
- Provides feedback to Physical Security Manager regarding security officer performance.
- Reports performance problems and recommends courses of action. Under guidance, may counsels staff.
- Provides input in the development of policies, procedures, manuals and training programs.
- Requests supplies/equipment for the Physical Security Team.
Assist the IDA Facility's Security Technician with opening safes and act as an Alternate Locksmith.
Assist the Fire Warden as the Assistant Fire Warden.
Assist the Physical Security Manager with annual security training.
Investigate potential security violations and documents results.
Supervises issuance of parking signs, badges and arranges parking for visitors.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and special training in law enforcement/security with 5 or more years of related experience.
- Two or more years of supervisory experience, preferably in security.
- Knowledge of the DoD Regulation 5220.22M, National Industrial Security Operating Manual (NISPOM).
- Ability to obtain within 6 months of hire CPR certification and First Aid training.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to display tact, discretion and diplomacy in dealing with all levels of IDA personnel and the public.
- Ability to use computer technology with proficiency to include: Microsoft office products, security badge creation software, and other security databases and programs.
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including responding to alarms, walking foot patrols in and around the building and climbing stairs. This requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending and similar activities.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, overtime hours or hours outside of regular schedule.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearances. Top Secret with SCI Eligibility is preferred.
