Definition of Class

This position is an experienced accountant employed within a centralized department. The incumbent performs advanced level accounting duties, supervises and coordinates a variety of accounting operations, prepares various financial reports, reconciles and monitors accounts, and prepares financial reports. This position reports to a higher-level administrator.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Maintains and monitors financial records of University’s financial investments.
  • Ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Supervises and participates in a variety of accounting activities.
  • Approves adjustments made to accounting records.
  • Analyzes and reconciles accounts.
  • Makes recommendations to ensure the efficient use of resources.
  • Prepares and reviews financial reports.
  • Supervises, directs, provides guidance and reviews the work of subordinate personnel.
  • Inventories tax and accounting forms.
  • Prepares cash needs analyses.
  • Oversees refunds and repayments of funds.
  • Provides technical support to accounting and related systems.
  • Resolves discrepancies with accounting records.
  • Works with internal and external constituents to resolve issues involving billings or collections of accounts payable or accounts receivable.
  • Authorizes account transfers and manual disbursements.
  • Prepares and distributes tax documents.
  • Reviews and approves funding for personnel forms.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  • Monitors and supervises accounting operations and activities.
  • Provides guidance to accounting personnel, as applicable, to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Reconciles accounts and prepares financial reports.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.


AND


Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.
