Initial Assignment

Based on your knowledge and expertise we would like you to help Haley & Aldrich understand what innovation and emerging technology opportunities exist that we could develop into new services and products, or leverage to improve what we do. We recognize that we will need to help you understand our business and workflows for you to be able to discover these opportunities. To this effect, we would like to engage you in an initial assignment, as described below:

Discovery: We envision you going through a discovery process to identify opportunities for potentially disruptive innovations (big “I”) and improvements to our work (small “i”). Big “I” opportunities will focus on solving client challenges and/or lead to new services or products. Small “i” opportunities are considered to be “low-hanging-fruit”, short-duration projects that are ready for immediate piloting. We expect you to design and lead the discovery process, and inform us as to what you need to be successful. We will provide access to our people, processes, and systems, with support from Nick Machairas and Ben Chandler.

We propose weekly check/adjust meetings with Nick and Ben to provide guidance on where to focus your efforts, navigating our organization, checking/adjusting your discovery process, level of effort and progress made, and your deliverables. We understand that you are available to work on this initial assignment on a part-time basis of between 20 and 30 hours per week.

Deliverable: Within two months of your acceptance of this assignment you will make a presentation of potential opportunities (perhaps three to five) to our senior leadership team, in sufficient detail for us to make a business decision on the possible selection of opportunities for further development.

Milestones

• Weekly check/adjust meetings with Nick and Ben
• Week 2: roadmap for discovery process
• One or two briefings with members of our senior leadership team to report on what you have discovered, share preliminary thoughts on opportunities, and receive feedback
• Within two months, presentation of potential opportunities to our senior leadership team

Potential Follow-on Assignments

If together we discover compelling opportunities that we would like to further develop or pilot (Big “I” or small “i”), potential follow-on assignments could include:

• Piloting and scaling immediate quick-win opportunities

• Developing strategy and action plan for next steps for bigger investments

• Working together on proof-of-concept and proof-of-business activities

As appropriate, we will work with you to define the scope of this follow-on work and mutually agreeable employment terms.
