SUMMARY: The Sr. Buyer acquires, purchases and negotiates requisitioned materials. They will negotiate with vendors to obtain quotations and delivery times; they are responsible for evaluating products and services to determine if they are compatible with organizational objectives. Oversees purchasing logs and records to ensure accuracy and follow through. Monitors quality of goods by reviewing costs, schedules, timeliness of delivery, and conformance to specifications. Trains at least one or more assistant buyers on proper purchasing skills. Possesses knowledge of extrinsic factors relating to commodities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize Master Production Schedule (MPS) & Workbench Demand in Syteline (ERP System) to determine what purchased and manufactured parts need ordered or released from a Blanket Purchase Order.
  • Generate Purchase Orders to Suppliers and manage open Purchase Orders for on-time deliveries per the vendor commitment; Execute delivery pull-ins, push-outs or cancellations per MPS requirements.
  • Forecast and negotiate price on high volume items; Issue Bid Award Contracts to lock in price.
  • Resolve supplier issues regarding logistics, pricing, quality and accounting.
  • Drive Suppliers to meet the delivery and quality goals by influencing them to develop sound corrective action plans for improvement. Develop a supply chain that minimizes inventory while maintaining product availability.
  • Maintain adequate inventories of purchased and manufactured material to satisfy the company Master Production Schedule (MPS). Manage inventory to assure the best allocation of company resources to achieve MPS and minimize obsolete inventory.
  • Ensure LEWCO is obtaining the lowest possible cost in the market. Develop and execute price reduction plans meeting department goals. Make recommendations on the appropriate supply chain to minimize costs.
  • Contribute to Process Improvement within the LEWCO organization. Execute inventory plan in strategic alignment with the overall business plan and focus of the company.
  • Interfaces with customers to define project material requirements well in advance of need and establish demand using the MPS system.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University; and 5+ years of production buying and planning experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate basic mathematical calculations
COMPUTER SKILLS
Excellent basic computer skills required. Must be proficient in Excel, Word, and various data base applications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee spends considerable time on shop floor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee works primarily in an office setting but will occasionally work in a shop setting.
