Senior Center Nutrition Coordinator
General Summary:
This position is responsible for coordinating, preparing, and serving all food programs at the Senior Center.
Essential Functions:
- Attends meetings as necessary;
- Coordinates all activities related to serving meals through the nutrition programs, including shopping, planning menus, ordering supplies, preparing and serving meals;
- Coordinates and ensures daily, weekly, monthly cleaning and sanitization schedule in kitchen and dining room; cleans all equipment used in food preparation;
- Establishes positive rapport with Senior Center participants and volunteers; maintains strict confidentiality;
- Holds food service license for Senior Center kitchen (Maple Road Café) and adheres to all food safety regulations as required by licensure;
- Keeps all statistics related to nutrition program and completes daily, weekly and monthly paperwork;
- Maintains inventory including food, cleaning supplies and paper goods, and purchases supplies as necessary;
- Oversees and coordinates all aspects of Senior Center nutrition programs, including collaboration with the Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc. (TVCCA), Maple Road Café and special events;
- Reconciles funds for programs each day;
- Trains, supervises and coordinates all nutrition program volunteers in food safety protocols and procedures;
- Works together with Senior Center staff for special programs and events;
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to apply cooking principles and techniques on a quantity basis;
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping;
- Knowledge of liquid and dry weights and measures;
- Knowledge of quantity meal planning, preparation and service;
- Knowledge of, and ability to adhere to, established safety and sanitation guidelines as required by food service licensure;
- Some knowledge of health and safety requirements in food service;
- Some interpersonal skills;
- Some ability to utilize computer software;
- Ability to prepare menus and keep accurate records;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Some mathematical ability;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and any experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. Incumbents must obtain a Connecticut Food Service License within the first three (3) months of employment. Incumbents must be free from communicable diseases
Pay range:
$20.00 - $22.00 hourly
