The Senior Cost Accountant is a hands-on position that will be responsible for all activities of the cost accounting function, including standard cost roll, bills of material, direct and indirect labor, overhead rates and absorption, and product cost development. The position reports to the controller and provides direct support to Accounting, Finance, Purchasing, Planning, and Plant Operations for all facets related to the movement and costing of inventory.

The Role

• Prepare daily analysis of manufacturing variances, work order and inventory tracking
• Validate unit costs, WIP valuation and integrity of physical inventory count programs by recommending process solutions.
• Work with operations teams to analyze inventory for potential excess and obsolete reserves and record the related entries to comply with GAAP.
• Liaison with the finance team to establish sound inventory policies, procedures, and financial systems to ensure the quality and integrity of inventories.
• Coordinate and lead the physical inventories, review cycle counts to ensure proper internal controls are followed.
• Prepare and submit inventory reconciliations for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventories related to material variances.
• Report on periodic variances and their causes, along with recommendations to minimize variances.
• Lead initiative to move from average costing to standard costing manufacturing inventory.
• Calculate and apply fully burden overhead costs as required by accepted accounting principles.
• Interact with internal/external auditors to provide inventory and cost analysis and work to ensure compliance internal control policies.

Requirements

• BS/BA in Finance or Accounting required
• 5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, proven expertise in cost accounting systems and procedures
• Sound working knowledge of US GAAP and cost accounting principles
• Strong mathematical, accounting, finance, and analytical skills
• Strong written, verbal, and analytical and problem-solving skills with proven experience in driving process improvement or implementation and preparation of SOP’s.
• Experience with ERP systems, Great Plains preferred, inventory management systems and Standard MS Office Applications - Excel (especially pivot tables and VLOOKUP), Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
