The Sr Database Administrator’s role is to carry out and oversee the installation, monitoring, maintenance, and performance tuning of all production databases by the DBA team while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. Their role is to also design production databases and provide support for specific applications.

$110,717.33 - $140,226.10 annually, plus benefits (see benefits tab on the job posting).

As an applicant for this position, you should be aware of Senate Bill 19-085, the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The act requires employers to announce the pay range for job openings. This range encompasses the nine pay steps available should you receive the position and demonstrate satisfactory performance over time. The position will normally start at $110,717.33 annually.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning


  • Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
  • Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

Operational Management
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Proactively perform capacity planning which includes monitoring, optimizing, and allocating physical data storage for database systems.
  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
  • Perform database transaction and security audits.
  • Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
  • Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use.
  • Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
  • Understand the needs and requirements of the applications using the databases and provide support for these applications.
  • Write and debug lines of SQL code for applications.
  • Create or support creation of required queries in response to business user needs.
  • Off hours on call duties.
  • Manage and/or provide leadership to more junior members of the team.
  • Assist more junior members of the team by training/knowledge transfer of operational tasks, technical information, etc. to help grow the team.
  • Quality check DBA team’s work to ensure that all operational responsibilities are being met, make recommendations, and advise management on areas that need strengthening.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Required Education and Experience:


  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and 8 years equivalent work experience.
  • Microsoft and Oracle Database related certifications.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Fluency writing and debugging SQL scripts.
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Strong working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting database servers, including Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle.
  • Proven hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
