As a member of the leadership team within CIEE’s IPEX division, the Senior Director of Placement Operations will lead a talented, global team who will be responsible for matching young talent to the best-fit internship or professional experience across all of CIEE’s Internship and Professional Exchange programs. You will be responsible for defining and executing incremental and exponential process improvements to ensure efficiency in our placement operations as we seek to make the right match between worker and employer. As we look to increase our placements by 10x over the next decade, you will also be taking the lead to define new processes, technology, and staffing structures to scale our offerings globally.
What you’ll do:
Business Process Re-engineering
- The Senior Director will drive both incremental and exponential process improvements across all internship offerings in CIEE’s Internship and Professional Exchange (IPEX) division. You will define new processes for the next generation of our offerings while also managing the existing processes to support the current products.
- You will actively lead the team in developing and enhancing end-to-end processes focused on improving the current system of reviewing applications for our Professional Exchanges programs to drive efficiency and reduce turnaround time for approving applications
- You will actively lead our Outbound Global Internships team and partners in CIEE centers across the world to optimize existing processes to place students in best-fit internships in a timely manner while meeting budget constraints
- You will actively lead the team in reimaging and redefining the most efficient and effective processes for supporting the next generation of CIEE’s internship placement programs
- You will guide and drive the work of dedicated IT teams to develop the necessary technology to enable and significantly scale the next generation of CIEE’s internship placement programs, growing placements by 10X within the next decade
- You will guide the team to develop supporting resources, tools, and infrastructure to support the next generation of CIEE’s internship placement programs
- You will drive a culture of continuous process improvement to ensure workflow, customer, partner & employee satisfaction, and employee education, as well as compliance with applicable laws, regulations,s and policies governing the program
Customer Service Mindset
- The Senior Director will demonstrate a customer service mindset in planning and execution and embed that mindset throughout the team. For example, reducing touch points with customers and partners to make the CIEE internship placement process a friction-free enrollment environment for participants, employers, and partners; and driving a culture of “making the right placement” to ensure on-the-job success
Budget and P&L Accountability
- The Senior Director will be accountable for the assumptions built into the annual budget and for managing turnaround times and expenses to achieve the target P/L for the division. They will analyze and leverage financial, recruitment, placement, and other data to determine appropriate operational tactics to continuously meet the organization’s fiscal and operational goals
Use Data and Analytics
- The Senior Director will leverage data and analytics for both accountability and decision-making. This leader will be agile in leveraging the use of data to transform it into actionable analytics. Specifically, they will communicate productivity and quality expectations to the team; track productivity and quality metrics, and analyze data to understand business and market trends in order to increase revenue, efficiency, and impact
Leverage tech-enabled processes
In collaboration with a dedicated IT team, they will guide the development of systems to support and scale placements, including the development of AI-powered algorithms and systems to increase placements by more than 10X over the next decade
People Leader
The Senior Director will effectively manage and mentor teams to motivate staff and helps them continuously improve, be accountable and grow
Vision & Agility
In collaboration with the VP, of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships and the Senior Director, of Industry Relations, the Senior Director will develop a vision for the future strategy and direction of CIEE’s Internship and Professional Exchange programs that will allow us to grow into new markets. They will be agile, with the ability to predict market drivers and the capability to shift resources (i.e., people, capital, technology, talent networks) to capitalize on the market and economic changes
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred (or international equivalent)
- A minimum of 15 years of related experience
- Strong knowledge of job placement or talent recruitment processes
- Excellent administrative and organization skills with the ability to effectively coordinate a large variety of activities
- Must exude professionalism both internal to and external to CIEE and be committed to company values and stated goals
- Superior written and verbal communication skills adaptable to all types of audiences including participants, faculty, Board members, employees, and industry partners
- Ability to work through and resolve a wide range of issues and be an exemplary ambassador of CIEE and its mission and programs
- Experience reporting to Leadership and being accountable for the team’s performance
- Experience leading technology-based projects
- Experience managing P/L a plus Understanding of global talent markets a plus
- Ability to function well in a complex institutional framework, have a high tolerance for ambiguity and flexibility and be able to respond quickly and appropriately to changing circumstances
