Role Overview
At the heart of Fisker’s visionary product lies a state-of-the-art powertrain, and you can play a central role in its delivery. The Senior Engineer HV Battery System Engineering will have to lead technical resource on a program. The senior Engineer is responsible for all system engineering, architecture and design, and deliverables. The LSE also leads pack-level technical discussions. The LSE is responsible for the product architecture and the product requirement compliance matrix. This individual will work closely with our engineering design team, prototype engineering team, key suppliers, validation/testing team, customers, program managers, and business development on key technical issues. In addition, this position requires communicating with the battery team members, including Design Engineer, Thermal Engineers, and Electrical Engineers to meet all battery engineering performance criteria.
Fisker is a fast-moving technologically focused startup, and in this context, you will need considerable flexibility and adaptability to deal with the rapidly developing requirements at the leading edge of EV Thermal and Powertrain implementation.
Responsibilities
-
The Battery Systems Engineer will be responsible for linking system-level battery pack requirements with vehicle targets and driving thermal, Battery Management System (BMS), electrical, mechanical and power distribution unit subsystem requirements accordingly.

Create and maintain system engineering documentation for the battery electrical, battery management system, power distribution unit, thermal and mechanical system-level & the entire pack in Jama.

Works as the main technical interface for Fisker HV battery projects and their applications

Drives a compliance matrix of customer requirements to an agreed baseline.

Develops system-level DFMEA and integrates it with requirements and verification plans.

Leads the development of system requirements, architecture, and system concept sizing.

Maintains changes to requirements, their impact analysis, and helps track scope creep.

Maintains system requirements throughout the product life cycle.

Identifies and drives cross-functional interface evaluations and any constraints.
-
Implements system optimization with design for excellence evaluation.
-
Helps to support business development with an evaluation of new opportunities.

Strongly supports other key functional engineering groups with their tasks (ME, EE, SW, BMS)

Supports functional safety, security, and reliability engineering analysis.

Helps support decomposition of DFMEA into sub-system DFMEA, and PFMEA
-
Helps develop system inspection requirements for end of line testing, from quality control plan.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s/ master’s degree in mechanical/EE or System Engineering with relevant experience

Minimum of 5 years with high voltage battery pack in systems engineering discipline or battery management system engineering projects.

Experience generating DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM/DFA, and DVP&R
-
Ability to organize and plan effectively with project teams.

Basic understanding of architecture modelling and requirements management tools

Experience translating vehicle performance into battery system and subsystem technical specifications and requirements.

Experience leading direct and cross functional teams effectively.
-
Experience using the system engineering software & processes such as Jama.

Knowledge of lithium-ion battery pack design and testing

Willing to help others and promote a positive culture.
Preferred Qualifications

MS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent)

+5 years engineering experience in systems engineering discipline on battery packs or battery management system projects

Product experience with Li-Ion batteries, battery pack design, electric vehicles, power systems, alternative energy systems, electronic control units (ECUs), battery management systems (BMS), MEMS, and sensors
-
Experience in tools for requirement engineering management (ex. Jama), CAD/CAE; (ex. SolidWorks); design of experiments and statistical analysis of data (ex: Minitab), system modeling (ex: MATLAB, Simulink/Simscape), and diagnostic communication tools and protocols; (ex. Vector CANoe; CAN; LIN; GPI/O)

Additional Requirements

Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required.

Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends where needed to meet deadlines and company goals.

Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
Expected Salary Range: $67,480.00 to $187,980.00
Additional compensation: Salary is one part of total compensation which includes bonuses, equity awards as applicable, and benefits. An employee is eligible to participate in Fisker’s equity program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
Benefits: Fisker provides comprehensive medical, prescription, dental, vision, and disability insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Fisker covers most of the premiums for employees.
The salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, education/training, certifications, key skills, experience, internal peer equity as well as business considerations. Fisker reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position within the salary range listed, taking into account the wide variety of factors listed above.
