The team at Atkinson Construction is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our estimating team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the development of the bid

• Build bid schedules

• Manage a team of estimators and delegate scopes and responsibilities

• Perform quantity take offs

• Read and interpret contract documents

• Scope subcontractor and supplier bid packages

• Solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing

• Provide preliminary evaluations of subcontractor and supplier pricing

• Negotiate cost and schedule

• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers

• Fully grasp work scopes

• Validate take-offs done by others

• Utilize controls to increase accuracy

• Integrate historic cost information into bid

• Encourage and/or participate in staff training and development

• Participate in preparation of proposals and presentations

• Work closely with regional leadership to evaluate, pursue and secure target opportunities

• Work with the 3rd party agencies during the pre-construction phase in order to add value to the owner, eliminate downtime and improve schedule efficiencies.

• Implement & maintain effective management, planning, cost control systems, & client relations

• Advise owners of developments that may affect profits, costs, and schedules

• Standardize more of the costs and estimating practices to provide consistency for the department and reduce ambiguity

• Dissect projects and find the best "mouse trap" within the owner's plans and specs, but opportunities to find new ideas outside of the box will continue to be necessary in a challenging market.

• Initiate construction staging plans and draft baseline project schedule

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management or a related discipline

• 4 to 6 years with a large scale heavy civil contractor, preferably specializing in underground construction

• In-depth knowledge of the acquisition process engineering or construction management and demonstrated leadership and relationship building skills

• Prior field construction experience a plus

• HCSS heavy bid experience a plus

• Experience in alternative delivery procurement a plus
