The Senior Mechanical Engineer I or III in the Design Services organization implements solutions to engineering challenges to meet standards set by the Department of Energy (DOE) for the SRMC project.
Senior Mechanical Engineer I job responsibilities:
- Plan and develop conventional engineering and scientific solutions for technical problems or project objectives using SRMC engineering methodologies and requirements. Assist more senior engineering personnel in performing related activities on more complex tasks.
- Assume technical responsibility for one or more phases of a program and/or ownership for unit operations within processing facilities. Collaborate with colleagues to provide innovative improvements to the existing processes.
- Specific job responsibilities may involve the following assignments: provide project engineering and facility engineering support; develop Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, System Descriptions, Mechanical Equipment Lists, Mechanical Equipment, Pipe, and Valve Specifications; provide ASME Code Design and Evaluation, Material Handling design, and HVAC design; perform technical calculations; develop procurement requirements, specifications and data sheets; perform vendor drawing reviews, design reviews, and commercial grade dedication.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Works under general direction and uses independent judgment in determining approach to work, methods, and techniques.
- Work is evaluated upon completion of major milestones or project completion.
- Serves as primary technical contact on large projects and collaborates with colleagues to develop innovative improvements to the existing processes.
- Contributes to the fulfillment of the project as a subject matter expert on a multi-disciplinary team. Leads technical teams/projects.
- Contributes to the success of the project by mentoring less experienced engineers in the group.
- Apply resourceful thinking to unique or complex problems.
- Research, modify, and apply existing methods and technology to assigned tasks, conventional engineering, or scientific problems.
- In-depth knowledge of the conventional technology in the specialized field, computer applications, Industry Codes and Standards, design control, and Department of Energy requirements is required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
Candidate(s) selected to receive an offer will be offered the position level commensurate with their education, experience, and qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices to develop appropriate outputs.
- Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards including ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, NFPA 101, and ASME N509/510.
- Proficiency with 2D MicroStation v8 CADD.
- Ability to perform walkdowns.
- Demonstrated ability to use technical, industry best practices, theories, concepts, and techniques to independently contribute to or lead technical scopes of work.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a changing environment with multiple demands and priorities.
- Good organizational and communication skills. Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in 2D Microstation CADD is preferred.
