SUMMARY:

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for engineering design, project execution and construction administration. This position reports to the Managing Engineer and is an integral part of NSU’s wastewater treatment and water reuse projects primarily in the New Jersey and New York Service Areas with additional support provided nationwide. Responsibilities range from planning to design to construction of wastewater treatment facilities including collection and conveyance systems, pipelines, pump stations, storage, and end-of-pipe treatment. NSU designs/operates facilities in NJ and increasingly along the eastern seaboard for our diverse clientele that include not only large utility companies but high-profile developers in the NY metropolitan area as well companies with global reach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
  • Design a complete project, system, component, or process. Perform analysis and calculations as required and/or utilize design software. Conduct/design experiments; analyze/interpret data.
  • Prepare complete project documents including scopes, budgets, and assignment schedules. Organize/coordinate key aspects of engineering work.
  • Lead projects and teams, mentor staff and develop working solutions for projects and to address client needs. Supervise/support team and mentor junior engineers & design/drafting staff and handle client management.
  • Develop/manage cost estimates and schedules for deliverables for each project
  • Develop construction documents/specifications; handle engineering services during construction.
  • Assist in developing proposals which will include defining scopes of work, fee estimates and timelines in addition to obtaining funding for engineering projects or programs
  • Accept guidance on unconventional or complex problems and be able to complete assignments with conflicting criteria or incomplete data.
  • Interact with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others. Attend project meetings and give presentations of engineering assignments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervise 0-2 employees within the New Jersey Engineering department(s).
  • Coordinate consultants, vendors and subcontractors as needed based on requirements.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Chemical, Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of engineering design experience with an emphasis on 10,000 gpd to 10 MGD wastewater treatment facilities. Water reuse and energy recovery system experience preferred.
  • Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
    • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (preferred and willingness to acquire)
  • Computer skills required:
    • Auto CAD and Revit Proficiency
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • MS Project or similar
