Job Description
Intuitive Surgical designs and manufactures highly complex surgical systems, instruments, and accessories. We are looking for a person who will be accountable for programs associated with the development of advanced imaging and vision technology products.
The Senior Project Manager will be driving program management from Concept to Full Launch of next generation products within Intuitive’s digital portfolio.
The Senior Project Manager will drive robust project planning, execution in a phase-based manner, management of project budget and resourcing, partnership across a matrixed organization, and clear communication and reporting.
What You'll Accomplish:
- Shepherd teams through design control pathways, program delivery processes, and product lifecycles, such as phase exit reviews
- Bring advanced technology projects into the world of new product development
- Bring products to market on time, making appropriate tradeoffs
- Provide clear program visibility to management and development teams regarding timeline risks, tradeoffs, and steps
- Identify cross-team dependencies early and incorporate into the program planning
- Plan/vet resourcing across cross-functional organizations with stakeholder buy-in
Responsibilities:
- Driving a portfolio of advanced imaging technologies and ensuring design control processes are followed per relevant SOP and DOP
- Ensuring complex, high-value projects are properly scoped, resourced, and communicated to mitigate risks and deliver on-time and on-budget
- Leading core teams of Product Development, Product Management, Interaction Design, Human Factors, Clinical Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Services, Training, Regulatory, and Quality organizations during the development process
- Implementing Design Controls under U.S. and International regulations
- Working with NPI Operations teams on prototype, supplier, and manufacturing activities
- Managing schedules, budgets, and clear communication on status, critical path, and risks
- Ensuring cross-product dependencies are aligned and executed
- Partnering and developing status reports, and creating goals and metrics to monitor progress
- Contributing to prioritization and tradeoff recommendations by providing data and research
- Creating presentations and leading senior management design reviews and phase gate exits
- Building sound communication channels, delivering accurate information to all stakeholders
- Improving processes via lessons learned, retrospectives, and driving best practices
- Being the primary point-of-contact for stakeholders across the organization
Qualifications
- Four-year degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in an engineering/scientific field; related field weighed in conjunction with experience. Advanced degree preferred.
- 8 plus years of a proven project management, resource planning, recommendation making, and negotiating skills.
- Must have extensive engineering project experience.
- 6 years of experience developing and commercializing medical devices, or similar regulated environment (e.g., FDA 21 CFR 820, IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971)
- Thorough knowledge of Design Controls under US and International regulations
- Experience with project phases and product lifecycles
- Experience making tradeoffs (features, customer needs, timing, and cost)
- Ability to synthesize data, set actionable goals, and drive execution with metrics.

- Effectively handle ambiguity and oversee multiple teams in parallel
- Clear communicator with ability to influence diverse stakeholders, including executives
- Drive original yet simple solutions for complex challenges; steadies the team under duress
- Excellent relationship building, facilitation, and work ethic
- Excellent communication (written, verbal), presentation and documentation skills
- Experience with regulatory submissions and/or first human use deployments preferred
- Experience with imaging medical device modalities is a plus
- Skill in MS Office and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, JIRA)
- PMP certification or equivalent desired

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.
Base Salary Range Region 1:$152,500 - $219,500
Base Salary Range Region 2: $129,600 - $186,600
Shift: Day
Travel: 10% of the time
