The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the Electrophysiology division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

As the R&D Technician II, you’ll perform research and engineering laboratory functions involving the layout, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modification of mechanical or electromechanical materials, devices, assemblies, subassemblies, systems and products.

Main Responsibilites

  • Performs bench tissue testing.
  • Uses standard laboratory techniques to weigh chemicals and make laboratory stock solutions.
  • Performs a variety of duties in the electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, chemical, or optical areas
  • Builds or assembles prototype materials, components, subassemblies and assemblies
  • Constructs, operates, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, maintains and tests equipment, systems or products
  • Works from schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions
  • Performs tests, analyzes data and writes reports
  • Reviews or develops processing or manufacturing instructions
  • Maintains detailed documentation through all phases of development, testing and analysis
  • May assist in the transfer of technology and/or contribute in cross-functional discussions regarding device performance allegations
  • Performs complex technical assignments usually without established procedures. Assists in the design, development, evaluation or modification of all area-specific equipment, materials, systems, and/or product.
  • May determine types of tests or develop preventative maintenance plans assignments require considerable judgment, initiative, creativity and leadership in troubleshooting, suggesting alternatives, and making recommendations for continuous quality improvement methods
  • Establishes priorities of work assignments with management input.
  • Solves a wide range of complex problems requiring some interpretation of defined procedures and practices.
  • Selects methods and practices with guidance from supervisor to obtain imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions to questions.
  • Understands organizational structure and positions of key employees.
  • Maintains general knowledge of products/services associated with area and employees involved with specific product lines and services.

Qualifications

  • Two-year degree with 2+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and technical work experience.
  • Knowledge of technical concepts and practices, and a complete understanding of product or systems fundamentals in a functional area, and working knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
  • Will perform this job in a quality system environment. Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations.
