Seeking a Senior Research & Formulation Chemist near Fresno, CA. Responsibilities include:

• Managing and performing quantitative and qualitative analysis on raw materials using laboratory experimentation to support the business with new innovative products and formulations.
• Formulating products including powder, liquid, and gel formulations to meet ingredient standards and sales expectations.
• Optimizing formulated ingredients to meet cost objectives and manage the availability of raw materials. Understand and employ the latest technologies in encapsulation, particle size control, and dispersion mechanisms.
• Testing formulations and substances for composition, properties, structures, and reactions. Identify abnormalities in new and existing formulations and execute corrective actions for continuous improvement.
• Preparing research proposals including analytical, technical, and financial data for developing and testing new or improved products. Innovate, lead and perform research to develop next-generation formulations.
• Reviewing competitive products and trade publications and preparing reports on comparative tests.
• Handling purchasing and delivery of raw materials, standards, equipment, etc. ensuring value for money is obtained.
• Managing laboratory scheduling by tracking QC requirements, and technical projects and liaising frequently with the production team, technical team, and sales team, and ensuring efficient lab throughput while meeting production, technical/formulation development, and business needs.
• Ensuring appropriate maintenance of the lab and its equipment and that the lab remains clean, safe, and organized.
• Responsible for production QC analysis and sign-off on production lots.
• Maintaining accurate QC sample retains/records to assist with any federal/state reporting requirements and in compliance with company guidelines.
• Verifying methods are being followed as written in our standard operating procedure manual.
• Performing weekly reviews of logbooks and quality control charts.
• Detecting and resolving problems relating to poor quality control results.
• Assisting in managing laboratory expenses, personal expenses, and other appropriate departmental budgets, analyzing operating needs, cost of sales, expenses, capital requirements, etc. on an ongoing basis.
• Preparation and delivery of reports, SOPs, and technical presentations for internal and external parties. Support and communicate effectively with internal (plant, office, and field personnel and external personnel (customers, vendors, service providers) to accomplish business, plant, and office objectives.
• Handle projects as necessary and directed by team members and the President

• A minimum BS Degree in Chemistry is required with at least seven years of industrial experience in one of the following areas: agricultural chemistry, formulation chemistry, production plant, and QC laboratory support.
• Graduate degree and 5+ years of industrial experience preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of laboratory equipment operations and analytical methods (AA, ICP, HPLC, etc.).
• Effective oral and written communication skills, bi-lingual (Spanish) desired.
• Experience independently conducting research and leading a project to successful completion.
• Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and computer skills.
• Well-organized, detail-orientated, and able to cope with multiple projects and deadlines.
