Opportunity
As a Senior Scrum Master, you will be providing day-to-day facilitation of 2-3 software development scrum teams. You will also be working with the teams and engineering management to continue to evolve and grow our agile understanding, approach, and practices. The teams you will be a servant leader for will be developing Heila’s key products and tools that are used by our customers (both external and internal) to enable wider adoption of clean energy solutions by making it easier to control and manage microgrids.
Specific Responsibilities
- Practice and encourage Agile mindset and behaviors; coach, inspire and mentor teams on Agile principles, values and practices
- Lead the application of Agile practices for 2-3 teams. Practices may be Scrum and/or Kanban based. Actions often include visualizing work, limiting work in progress, managing workflow, planning and guidance for daily standups, sprint planning, short, mid, and long-range planning, backlog refinement, and retrospective meetings.
- Working with Engineering Managers, do whatever possible to help team continually improve their performance
- Perform JIRA administration activities for team(s) such as: Opens and closes sprints in JIRA, manages JIRA board and cross team dependencies, etc
- Partner with and support the Product Owner and Engineering Management in management of the product backlog to ensure it is rank order prioritized by business value.
- Facilitate alignment and assist Product Manager and Dev Team in creating sprint goals and making appropriate commitments i.e., backlog refinement.
- Organize and facilitate all agile ceremonies to ensure appropriate team commitments.
Track and communicate agile metrics to teams, management, and dependent teams - Help to identify, remove, and/or escalate impediments, risks, and dependencies that could hinder the team’s ability to deliver on the sprint goal or long-term commitments.
- Assists team to identify both qualitative and quantitative process improvements.
- Fosters psychological safety. Work with engineering management in assessing and maintaining team health
- Provide basic team level training on agile frameworks, values, principles, and tactical methodologies like estimation, story-writing etc.
- Facilitate team launch activities and the creation and updating of agile artifacts i.e. Definition of Ready/Done, Team Working Agreement etc.
- Coaches the Product Owner and team on delivery of vertically sliced stories.
Skills/Requirements
- Certified Scrum Master / Certified Agile Coach
- 5+ years of experience as Scrum Master at least 3+ with software product development teams
- In-depth understanding of Agile Principles and pragmatic approach in how they are applied
- Strong facilitation skills within teams and groups
- Experience resolving issues with higher levels of management
- Experience with facilitating distributed teams
- Strong understanding of JIRA and Confluence preferred
- Effective communication, team dynamics, and conflict resolution skills
- Sufficient understanding of technology systems and the ecosystems team works in to help remove upstream/downstream dependencies
