The Senior Vice Presient, Development is a key senior leadership position, reporting to the President and CEO, collaborating with the Board of Directors and staff to lead SPAC’s successful donor revenue program. The Senior Vice President, Development is responsible for SPAC’s fundraising strategy and develops the roadmap for successful financial growth by leading the Development team to meet annual revenue and donor relations goals. The Senior Vice President, Development guides the strategic fundraising efforts for a portfolio of contributed revenue streams, including individual, foundation, government, corporate philanthropy, and special events. The Senior Vice President, Development enjoys representing SPAC externally in the community, solicits major gifts, and advocates for a thriving organizational culture. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set the overall direction of SPAC’s development team to expand donor base and place the organization on a fundraising growth path.
- Build an inclusive and effective culture of philanthropy at SPAC, working closely with the Board, staff, and volunteers.
- Create an annual fundraising plan, with specific timeline, activities, and financial goals, for Board giving, major gifts, grants, patronship/membership, special gifts, planning gifts, corporate sponsorship, and government partnerships.
- Solicit major gifts and serve as ambassador to the philanthropic community on behalf of SPAC’s mission, programs, events, and leadership.
- Manage, train, mentor, and support five (5) full time development staff positions.
- Diversify philanthropic sources and increase numbers of donors & dollars.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board.
- Build relationships with Foundations and Corporate partners in the Capital Region.
- Increase sponsorship opportunities for programs and series for donors to adopt, name, and underwrite.
- Enhance institutional grant program that strategically engages a wide array of family foundations, corporate foundations, and other institutional grant-makers.
- Oversee fundraising schedule of activities and appeals, spanning virtual, direct mail, events, applications, etc.
- Formulate development budgets, track financial performance, prepare interim financial reports and fundraising projections, and monitor expenditures.
- Prepare and present reports to the Board on fundraising performance.
- Ensure appropriate recognition and stewardship of donors.
- Organize volunteer leadership councils to expand SPAC’s funding reach.
- Deliver best practices in nonprofit philanthropy.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
- 5+ years leading a development department or major gifts program skills (i.e., people, projects, and budgets).
- Proven skills in a wide range of fundraising practices.
- Deep appreciation for the performing arts and the mission and values of SPAC.
- Proven track record in setting and achieving revenue targets.
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective frontline major gifts solicitor.
- Superb written and interpersonal communication skills.
Compensation is based upon experience and demonstrated ability to meet goals.
