Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut is seeking determined individuals with a great passion for helping others.


As a Human Services Associate for the Deaf, you would be
providing support to deaf participants within a variety of Human Services programs.


Hourly Pay Rates
:
Weekday Day Shifts (before 5pm) = $18.00 an Hour
Weekday Evening Shifts (after 5pm) = $18.75 an Hour
Any Weekend Shifts = $19.50 an Hour
Any Overnight Shifts = $20.25 an Hour

Responsibilities
:

  • Assist deaf participants with language barriers in all settings where services are provided.
  • Provide coaching and support to participants to promote independence at their work sites or personal lives.
  • Instruct and guide program participants on how to complete vocational tasks and learn appropriate social or living skills.
  • Observe and report participants’ ability to engage in competitive employment and identify needs for accommodations.
  • Provide personal care assistance to program participants.
  • Complete required documentation, data collection, and reports.
  • Provide transportation for participants as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with employers to review productivity and quality of work.


Position Requirements
:

  • Must meet one (1) of the following testing qualifications:
    • Pass the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) provided by Gallaudet University at a minimum of Level 4+.
    • Pass the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) provided by Rochester Institute of Technology at a minimum of Level Superior.
  • Experience and knowledge of Deaf culture through personal experience and/or completion of a Deaf Studies Program preferred.
  • Associate’s degree or a combination of education, training, or practical experience in a Human Services environment.
  • Satisfactory driving record, current driver's license, and daily access to a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle for frequent in-state driving.
  • First Aid and CPR are required (Goodwill can provide training after hire).
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time.
  • May be required to seek a Public Service License (PSL) or DDS Medication Administration Certification.
  • May be required to assist individuals with mobility and physical transfers. Hoyer Lifts may be involved.
