Job Summary:

The Shell Conveniece Store Manager is responsible for recruiting and directing staff inside the store and at the pump to provide top rate customer satisfaction in all aspects of our 24-hour Shell convenience stores. The convenience store includes both the fuel operation and a high-volume Krispy Krunchy Chicken food program. Must manage staff to comply with all applicable state and local laws regarding food preparation, alcohol and tobacco sales, labor laws, and the dispensing of fuel.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with the General Manager regarding overall department operations.
  • Responsible for sourcing and training quality candidates; managers, cashiers, and fuel attendants.
  • Review financial statements, sales or activity reports, or other performance data to measure productivity or goal achievement or to identify areas needing cost reduction or improvement.
  • Monitor suppliers to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide needed goods or services within budgetary limits.
  • Verify fast food quality standards are achieved for hot and cold products on a consistent basis.
  • Oversees merchandising displays and signage.
  • Set prices or credit terms for goods or services, based on forecasts of customer demand.
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with outside vendors and agencies.
  • Oversee incoming inventory and ensure freight is stocked to the sales floor in a timely manner.
  • Manages perishable inventory.
  • Conducts daily tours and delegates tasks as appropriate; follow-up to ensure tasks are completed.
  • Manages staff and schedules to maintain store stocking levels, appropriate product rotation, and plan and organize merchandise in a neat and attractive way to promote sales.
  • Processes payments, purchases, returns, and exchanges according to store policy.
  • Prepare and balance daily cash reports and daily bank deposits.
  • Orders supplies and tools required by staff to assist customers as required and respond to facility maintenance and repair requests in a timely fashion.
  • May require frequent or infrequent travel between both locations within Douglas County.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must maintain a fair and consistent set of standards that applies to all employees.
  • Ability to operate available equipment, such as: computers, cash registers, calculators, scanners, fryers, oil filer, grill, beverage machines, and all other food prep related equipment.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, in order to make change, give refunds accurately, complete invoicing tasks, and to balance tills daily.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such a s safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Communicate professionally via phone, email, and in-person with customers, staff, and vendors.
  • Become knowledgeable about company’s products and services, to make proper recommendations of products and services sold.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with management, employees, office staff, vendors, and customers in a friendly, open, and approachable manner.
  • Must have excellent time management skills and meet deadlines while adjusting priorities to respond to business operation needs.
  • Ability to analyze retail reports concerning sales history, profit trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Required to maintain strict confidence of all sensitive employee and customer information.
  • Maintain operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational programs.

Education and Experience:

  • Two or more years of related managerial retail experience or education equivalent required.
  • Microsoft Suite experience with outlook, excel, and word on a windows operating system required.
  • Experience with maintaining records and documentation in an organized and logical manner.
  • Experience completing employee improvement plans preferred.
  • Familiarity with restaurant business and retail environment is highly desired.
  • Experience with both hot and cold food cooking experience with an emphasis on maintaining high food quality standards.
  • Fuel ordering, inventory, fuel tank training.
  • Convenience Store Point of Sale: VeriFone Commander/VeriFone Ruby experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Bending, twisting, stooping, and kneeling required frequently to rearrange merchandise and verify stock levels.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs frequently
  • May need to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.
  • Will occasionally be scheduled to work at various company locations within the co-op.
