Transition Projects connects individuals with the services, resources, and tools they need to end their homelessness. Our team of over 350 assists more than 10,000 people each year at 14 different sites in the Portland metro.

  • On any given day, we help meet the basic needs of more than 500 people experiencing homelessness through our Resource Center.
  • On any given night, we provide a safe place to sleep for more than 800 people with nowhere else to turn.
  • In any given year, we help place more than 1,000 people into affordable housing – and then support them in retaining that housing.

POSITION SUMMARY

Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:30am-5:30pm or Tuesday - Saturday 7:30am-5:30pm. Some weekend and evening work required

Salary: $25.00 per hour

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Resource Center assists people to meet their needs for hygiene, access to shelter and housing resources, receive mail, and connect needed services. This position oversees day to day operations, provides training and support to staff on shift, and ensures that services are provided in a safe and trauma informed manner. The right person for this position exhibits passion and vision for meeting the needs of people experiencing homelessness, is capable of providing leadership and support to staff, and can manage difficult situations in a positive and constructive manner.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assure best practices, accessibility, safety, and security of Resource Center program operations.
  • Provide leadership, support, and positive role modeling for program staff.
  • Assist with staff scheduling. Coordinate and provide coverage for staff when they are absent.
  • Coordinate with shelter programs and other service providers that provide services for participants and assure good referrals and appropriate working relationships between their staff and Transition Projects staff.
  • Contribute to the hiring, on-boarding, and training of new staff. Ensure the program is safe, clean, and sanitary.
  • Assure that programs and operations empower participants to attain the highest possible level of self-determination and stability in their lives, and that programs and operations are conducted in such a manner as to fully respect the dignity, rights and abilities of each individual participant.
  • Contribute to the performance evaluation of staff, including contributing to performance appraisals, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary action.
  • In the absence of the manager, facilitate staff meetings and other program meetings as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings, program meetings, and partner meetings as assigned.
  • Adhere to allocated budgetary guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The right individual for this position is resourceful and innovative, a strong leader, has a passion for helping others, and is able to deal with difficult situations in positive and constructive ways. This position also requires the following qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with 1 years of experience in social services for low income and/or homeless persons, preferably in a residential setting. -OR-

2 years of experience in social services for low income and/or homeless persons.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and oversee programs operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate programs in a manner that respects the dignity, rights and ability of participants.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as part of a program management team.
  • Understanding of case management, chemical dependency and mental illness issues and problem solving approaches.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of crisis de-escalation, negotiation and problem solving techniques.
