Position Description
Title: Shipping and Receiving Supervisor
Department: Shipping & Receiving
Immediate Supervisor: Warehouse Manager
Status: Exempt
Position Purpose: Supervise the Shipping & Receiving functions of the IPG facility
Principle Accountabilities
- Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records of incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment.
- Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
- Utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates.
- Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conditions of shipments.
- Determines space requirements and position of shipments in bobtails and 53' trucks and lays out position of the shipment.
- Oversee General Shipping Activities
- Inspect Loading Operations
- Manage Shipping Orders & Invoices
- Inventory Reconciliation
- Supervise Shipping Staff
- Maintain Warehouse Safety & Cleanliness
- Hire & Train Staff
- Responsible for sustaining inventory locations and verifying inventory on racks and floor layout is in proper order.
- Participates in physical inventories of warehouse and/or supply yard; operates a personal computer to access information.
- Displays the right leadership behaviors by following standard procedures and maintains warehouse organization. 5S and Visual Management will be a critical function to champion.
- Natural leader who is not afraid to challenge the status quo. Drives continuous improvement initiatives to improve Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), Intertape Performance Systems (IPS), Bridge 2 Excellence (B2E) such as: Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. Focuses on improving Quality of Service by reducing shipping errors and freight cost. Finds the best way to perform efficient flow of products and improves on time delivery.
Essential Skills and Experience
- High School or equivalent
- Two (2) years of related Warehouse / Inventory experience Leadership Skills Required Has a business mind set; able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
- Works well under pressure, maintains proper composure, and consistently delivers results
- Attention to details; able to reduce or eliminate shipping errors and sustain results
- Basic math geometry skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English. (Spanish is a plus)
- PC skills required. Experience with CAPP/AS400 & Microsoft suites (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
- Willingness and ability to bend, stoop, lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stand and walk continuously throughout an 8+ hour shift; work in dusty and dirty conditions; handle and store materials; clean and maintain a safe working environment.
- Must have dependable transportation. Overtime may be required.
- Forklift certified preferred but not required
- Ability to work under supervision as well as unsupervised as needed; potential Lead role
- Communication Skills-clear communication is key the key to making a shipping warehouse run smoothly. The shipping supervisor need to take and give direction in a clear and organized manner.
