The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at the University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development (EHD) is seeking qualified acting applicants for their Simulation Specialist. The Simulation Specialist performs (acting, digital puppeteering, improvisation, standardized patient/student, and/or role-playing) for the Mursion mixed-reality virtual simulator, which takes the form of virtual school spaces with students and adult avatars. EHD teacher candidates and students engage in scenarios which include, but are not limited to, participating in small-group discussions, engaging with a student's caregiver during a conference, and having a difficult conversation with a colleague. The Simulation Specialist controls digital avatars, while listening and responding to the participants and matching and maintaining distinct, realistic responses to ensure the highest simulation experience. The Simulation Specialist rehearses, maintains, and modifies (where necessary) specific vocal profiles for an array of digital avatars.

A high school diploma is required, as is experience performing (acting, digital puppeteering, improvisation, standardized patient/student, and/or role-playing). The ability to listen and respond with sincerity, empathy, and emotional honesty is required as is the ability to match and maintain distinct, realistic responses. The ability to understand and honestly portray diverse psychological profiles is essential as is mastery of the actor's voice, body, and imagination. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are also required.

Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) and video conferencing skills are required. Experience with gaming technology is preferred, as is experienced in a teaching or education environment. knowledge of pop culture is preferred.

Simulation Specialists will work 10 to 20 hours per week. Class times will vary M-F between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm EST. The majority of sessions are held in the evenings from 4-8 pm EST. Flexibility with schedule is required.

Auditions will be held via Zoom. This position is remote hire anywhere in the continental US.

Four years of experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
