Job Summary

We are looking for a candidate who has a strong previous experience in social media and has already a proven track record working as part of a social media team, whether on the agency or corporate side. Our Social Media Director needs to be creative and strategically minded and will also need to enjoy working in a fast-paced, fun environment to be a good match for our current team.

This position develops strategic initiatives to increase global awareness and engagement around UPS’ products/services and promotes a positive corporate image of UPS. The incumbent will be at the forefront to plan, design, implement and monitor social media campaigns. This role supports key business priorities through the development of proactive and reactive communications strategies. The incumbent leads staff members to initiate social media campaigns. This role is able to inspire the team both by their excellent knowledge of the social media landscape and trends, as well as their leadership skills. This position also plays a big role in managing our social media agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and oversees the development of social media strategies incorporating international business, cultural, and digital communication practices to advance and enhance UPS’s reputation
  • Identifies and resolves social media priorities based on enterprise priorities, initiatives, and strategies to determine how to be most effective to grow the business and enhance revenue
  • Generates multi-channel (e.g., PR, Social, Internet, etc.) initiatives in consultation with other communications groups, as well as Legal, Business Development, Public Affairs, and Marketing to support enterprise priorities
  • Establishes and manages social media budgets to ensure department accountability and efficient use of resources
  • Consults with senior management to align social media presence and use with corporate directives
  • Provides social media counsel to Public Affairs, Investor Relations, Customer Communications, and Employee Communications staff to maintain coordination of global messaging
  • Maintains Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in social media’s best practices and the company’s global products/services portfolio to ensure accuracy and consistency of message
  • Directs development of social media content (tweets, videos, infographics, stories, etc.), ensures placement and measurement of engagement
  • Ensures messages are aligned with UPS strategy to maximize effectiveness in reaching their intended audiences
  • Determines work to be completed by PR and digital communications agencies to reach specific social media objectives
  • Holds digital communications agencies accountable to ensure goals are met
  • Writes and negotiates vendor contracts to obtain professional services
  • Identifies new products, services, or other campaign priorities to launch on social media channels
  • Initiates launch strategy development with staff and digital agencies; ensures resource prioritization
  • Interprets measurement of campaign results and implements adjustments to strategy
  • Ensures ongoing social media monitoring and crisis response plans
  • Provides direction on channel and content strategy to attain business goals
  • Ensures ongoing social media channel governance and training to maintain information security and support positive brand image
  • Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Performance Management, Career Development, Succession Planning, Salary Administration, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day-to-day administration of processes and formal procedures
  • Identifies individual and team skill gaps/developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development
  • Ensures that direct/indirect reports have documented, strategically aligned career goals and detailed plans for achieving goals to advance the development of their personal/professional growth
  • Conducts frequent performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement
  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals and maintain consistent practices across the organization
  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies/procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork
  • Coaches’ others and provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance as they take on greater responsibilities
  • Identifies opportunities to involve others in new/challenging work assignments that advance the skills and capabilities of individuals and the organization
  • Makes strategic decisions about the lateral movement and promotion of people to develop skills and fill key positions

  • Creates new budgets; identifies and takes corrective actions to bring areas in line with budget and allocates available funds
  • Identifies root causes of problems with communication programs; designs communication programs based on organizational needs; adapts media channel and communication style to various situations/groups and recommends adjustments to communication strategies
  • Addresses problems involving global business needs; applies cultural sensitivity when making decisions on business issues; recommends changes in the way business is conducted in different countries or geographical regions; recognizes and pursues opportunities for advanced cultural awareness
  • Uses in-depth techniques to uncover new information or details that are not readily available; selects techniques and strategies that are appropriate for the audience; chooses techniques that result in more accurate/thorough information and implements strategies that minimize biases and preconceived ideas
  • Demonstrates an understanding of UPS and vendor business needs/goals; reviews and recommends appropriate vendors based on business needs to internal stakeholders; provides input into the creation of vendor contracts/agreements and communicates expectations to vendors
