SOCIAL WORKER

YOUTH AND RECREATION SERVICES

Anticipated Starting Salary: $56,220 - $60,000 - Full-time with excellent benefits

GENERAL DUTIES

This position is responsible for the oversight of social and emotional assistance and programing for youth and families who use the Youth Center resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function to satisfaction.

  • Oversees social and emotional concerns of middle/high school members.
  • Collaborates with North Andover Public Schools on tracking and communication.
  • Oversees new parent awareness programs and services.
  • Assists with training of youth center full and part time staff on social and emotional concerns.
  • Provides information and referral services for our youth center members and families.
  • Provides crisis intervention services.
  • Provides community outreach services.
  • Coordinates (1) Youth Leadership group.
  • Represents the department on (3) community advisory committees.
  • Works in concert with our present support services position.
  • Conducts initial assessments and referral to local counseling agencies.
  • Provides services throughout the (8) week summer program.
  • Assists with some building operations responsibilities.
  • Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
  • Follows safe work practices.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Guidelines

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Human Services, or a related field, supplemented by 5 years of experience in community or school based mental health treatment and prevention, crises response, community outreach or similar experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, ability, and skills described below. LICSW is preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • Department policies and procedures.
  • Community youth needs and available counseling services.
  • Recreation programs and recreation management.
  • Effective processes to engage youth in the community.
  • The use of standard office equipment including computers and relevant software programs.

Ability to:

  • Multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, elected officials, coworkers, residents, and members of the general public.
  • Work a flexible schedule and occasional weekend hours.
  • Work as a team member under the Youth Center Mission.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wetness and humidity; and to other unpleasant conditions such as dim lighting, dust, odors, and noise.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Supervision Received: Director of Youth and Recreation Services.

Supervision Exercised: None.
