Software Engineer I (Entry Level) Job at Principal Financial Group

As a member of the team, you will share responsibilities in:
- Strive for customer focus through high collaboration with our business, digital partners, and teams all with diverse perspective.
- Focus on growing as an engineer, learning existing tools, resources and processes
- With guidance, develop productivity skills by learning source control, editors, the build system, and other tools as well as automated testing best practices.
- Introduction to the layers of a software development/complete solution: A -Run-time environment A -Database A -APIs A -User interface and user experience A -Quality assurance, automated testing A -Security concerns throughout the program.
- Consider established controls, policies, regulations and recommend mitigation strategies during development.
- Understand customer and business needs. Develop knowledge of a single layer of the solution.in communicating technical concepts to business stakeholders as well as communicate business objectives to the technical team.
- Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree, preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field or equivalent experience
- Ability to obtain certification(s) in an IT related field is a plus
- Basic planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills required
- Proficiency with database applications, knowledge of mainframe, distributed and/or web programming language
- Basic leadership skills preferred
- Excellent time management skills preferred
- Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
- Must have the desire and ability to learn new technology and continuously grow
- Ability to work on cross-functional teams and collaborate with both IT and non-IT partners
- Some travel may be required, including overnight stays
- May be required to provide on-call support
