About the role

We are seeking a hands-on manager of managers, with the ability to delegate tasks and find success through other managers. They will drive the execution and delivery of features by collaborating with many multi-functional teams, architects, product owners, and engineers. They will make critical decisions that attribute to the success of the product and business. Must be comfortable handling ambiguity, while proactively foreseeing known issues and developing resolutions prior to them occurring.

Within months of taking on this role, we expect the Director to iterate our roadmap and grow the team. To understand the technical ecosystem (e.g. stack tech etc.) and drive high-quality product and feature creations that are production ready. They will provide high-level support and unblock people on outcomes and challenges.

Your responsibilities

  • Partner with PO initiatives to align with objectives, priorities, trade-offs, and risks.
  • Ensuring teams have clear priorities and adequate resources.
  • Be a multiplier and have a passion for the team and team members' success. Be an influential multiplier in the organization. Maintaining high morale and motivating the delivery team to go above and beyond.
  • Providing technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members. Vocally advocating for technical excellence and helping the teams make good decisions. Mentoring is your super-strength!
  • Participating in architecture discussions and planning. Help the organization drive scalable decisions.
  • Participating in cross-functional coordination, planning, and reviews with leads from other engineering teams.
  • Maintaining and encouraging our culture by interviewing and hiring only the most qualified individuals. Empower individuals to get to their best!
  • Drive critical product thinking in engineering and continue to help developers tie the threads on the big picture and execution.

You have

  • Masters / Bachelors degree required in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 4 + years of proven ability leading software engineering teams with a distinguished track record on technically fast paced projects and scaled products.
  • Working experience in software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, SCM, CI, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies. Scrum Master experiences a huge bonus.
  • Experience leading large scale distributed systems, working with micro-services and/or distributed architecture.
  • Adept verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, proactive, comfortable working with minimal specifications.
  • Experience with short release cycles, the full software lifecycle, and experience working on a product that's been released for public consumption.
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring and managing engineers as well as engineering managers.
  • Experience managing and building other leaders in your organization.

The expected base salary range for Technical roles (e.g. Engineering, Product, Design) at this level within Point is $169,600 to $318,000 per year. This does not include any other potential components of the compensation package, including equity, benefits, and perks outlined above. At the launch of each position we benchmark compensation to the appropriate role and level utilizing competitive compensation data from various data sources as references. At the offer stage we use the signal we received from our interviews coupled with your experience, location, and other job-related factors to determine final compensation.
